Owner description: Add some exotic to the everyday with Nashville Zoo at Grassmere. Wander through a lush canopy of bamboo, come face to face with a clouded leopard, feed some Australian parrots, and delve into the far reaches of the Amazon. Nashville Zoo is your ticket to African giraffes, poison arrow frogs, zebras, red pandas, kangaroos, gibbons, meerkats and much more! Children of all ages will be fascinated with the zoo’s Highlighted Habitats. Find out why a baby giraffe likes warm temperatures. Walk the winding path through 4,500 square feet of naturalistic Australian landscape in the Kangaroo Kickabout. In the Kickabout, you will be in the home of a troop of red kangaroos. Keep your eyes and ears open for the cockatoos that also live in Kangaroo Kickabout. In between your animal adventures, be sure to take a spin on our Wild Animal Carousel, get a new view of the Zoo from Soaring Eagle zip line, monkey around our 66,000-square-foot Jungle Gym, or even step back in time on the walking tour at our Grassmere Historic Home and Farm. When you visit the 1810 historic home, you will learn about the name “Grassmere” and how the zoo came to be located there.

While visiting Nashville for two days, we decided to spend one of the days at the Zoo. What a great decision! We are in our late 20s, no kids, but were both very impressed! Lots to see and beautifully maintained grounds. In particular, we loved the new Kangaroo Kickabout exhibit. Getting the chance to be so close to the kangaroos was amazing (and completely unexpected!). We would highly recommend a visit to the zoo if your schedule allows for it.

There was lots of animal encounter places (baby kangaroos, etc.), and it was very clean and well maintained. We even got to ride on a train which the little kids loved. In addition there was a large playground area with a bridge and soft bouncy place. We came at 9am when they opened, left for lunch but then came back later in the afternoon for more fun. Our entrance fee were free since we went with group of friends who are members there.

I had met up with a friend and her children at the zoo. She is from the near by area, and we thought it would be great for the kids. It was, without a doubt one of the fun places we had been this year. We traveled from the East coast to the West coast and back, and found to zoo enjoyable.

This was a really good zoo with the ability to get really close and actually touch goats, camels, cows, horses, and believe it or not kangaroos. Also a really good place to get some exercise with walking. In addition there was a restored plantation house, gardens, barn and live stock.

This is an awesome zoo! When you are in the zoo, you feel more like you are on a nature hike. The paths are easy to navigate but you feel like you are truly back in a natural setting. One of the first zoos to use the natural setting and hidden barrier concept, you truly feel up close with the animals.

We were there on a chilly day and the animals were really active. One tip, we got to the Tiger Exhibit as the keepers were in there putting out halloween enrichment items for the Tigers. Several groups kept walking but we stayed put to watch them. The tigers then came out and had a blast playing with their toys while they were still new to them. SO much fun. The keeper came out and talked with my boys and answered all their questions in an informal chat. The other groups SO missed out on this awesome experience.

Every keeper we encountered at a formal chat or by chance was so engaging and eager to share knowledge and chat which made it so personal. All of the exhibits are well set up with many viewing points, really enjoyed our day here.

The kids playground is literally a huge fortress of fun. We should have left more time (like at least an hour) for the kids to fully enjoy it, when we return they will have more time. It has something for every age but the kids grade school age seemed to benefit and enjoy it the most. Our kids, 7 and 9 year old boys, definitely LOVED it!

My advice, if you take small kids to Nashville and they like animals or huge playgrounds, this is a must-visit attraction.
