“Historic and Nice”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

This hotel is a renovated, historic building. There is a certain "wow" factor when you step into the opulent lobby, which immediately takes you back to another time. Check-in was fast, and all the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The room was spacious and tastefully decorated. The bathroom had two sinks, a tub, and a shower, if that gives you a sense of the scale (which I would equate to a master bedroom in a modern house.) There was both maid service during the day and turn-down service at night.

We hopped down to the bar and restaurant a few times. The bar has some good menu items for snacks, but the star is its expansive bourbon menu. Watch out, though, prices range from 15 dollars to 90 dollars for the bourbons listed. The bar is dark and serious, and is different from the revelry going on a few blocks away, but the atmosphere definitely fits in with the elegance of the hotel.

We only had breakfast at the restaurant, since it was part of our room deal. It was a nice place to dine, and our server was very friendly. The food was good.

The hotel also features a large lobby, and other adjacent spaces to hang out if you don't want to go out or be in your room. There is a small boutique which sells things like women's dresses and other general things a traveler might need.

The hotel is located in the general downtown area. There are a lot of attractions within a short walking distance. Broadway and the honkeytonks are about a five minute walk away.

This hotel made our trip memorable, and I was glad to share in a part of Nashville's history.

The lobby has a wonderful old feel without being stuffy. We stayed in a lovely suite with comfortable seating and a great bathtub. It was nice to go downstairs to meet friends for a drink and the bar seems like a popular spot. Lively without being raucous. Staff was most helpful. The shop downstairs was small, but had some wonderful ladies' clothes.

Room Tip: I liked facing the Capitol

Impress yourself and your friends by staying at this 5 star property in Nashville. It's very intimate and has the 5 star service you would expect in a resort setting. Nothing is really left to chance here and the doorman and valet personnel are exceptional and welcome you as you come and go throughout your stay. The cookies and fresh squeezed lemonade provided in the afternoon are a very nice touch.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a Capital View. You'll feel like Andrew Jackson himself.

The hotel is located conveniently to most of the downtown attractions in Nashville. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the bell staff. We entered the grand lobby and enjoyed the beauty of Hermitage Hotel. Next we checked in to our room, the front desk staff was very friendly.
We had a regular king room. The room itself was gorgeous and roomy. We also liked the Nespresso machine. The bathroom was lovely and included marble. There was a separate water closet, shower, and big soaking tub.
We also loved the fresh delicious cookies and fresh lemonade that arrived in the afternoon for a snack. The concierge was also generous and eager to assist us with our daily plans. The nightly turn down service was also an added treat.
We also enjoyed the Oak Bar and ate at the Capitol Grill. The service at both was top notch and the food was equal.
If I return to Nashville, I would NOT hesitate to stay at the Hermitage again, we were very satisfied.

Had an idyllic stay here on the way from Dallas to Cleveland. The facilities were flawless and the staff very gracious and genuinely friendly, not obsequious or pandering. Terrific food as well. Highly recommend!

We recently stayed at the Hermitage and definitely consider this a 5 star hotel. The room quality and luxuries are quality. We agree with most all of the previous reviews about the rooms. It had everything we could ask for. We did stay in a deluxe room, over-looking the state capitol. So, this added to the enjoyment of our stay. We highly recommend the hotel. The bellman and valet’s were very helpful. We did enjoy the Oak Bar. The bartender was quite knowledgeable about spirits and we were able to totally enjoy his recommendations.

Dining: we must add a footnote. The Capitol Grille, located in the hotel, is not of the same quality as the hotel. Maybe we were there on a bad night – we don’t think so. We were totally disappointed with this restaurant and will write a review on their site. The service was poor. Time between ordering and receiving entrees was over 30 minutes, while we sat there with nothing. This might not be long for “dining”. But, it was a total lack of attention to us being in their restaurant. The quality of the cooking was very substandard (except for the meat, itself, which they farm raised). The vegetables were burned and unrecognizable. The one side dish of Mac and Cheese was burned on the bottom. The farm fresh salad turns out to be a Veggetti zucchini with white wine vinegar dressing (as seen on TV). The wine pour was very short (for $15/glass). Overall, the experience was expensive and not worth half of what we paid. The breakfast, however, was more than adequate and convenient for the morning meal.

We have stayed at the Hermitage’s sister hotel, Keswick, and it had a waiting list for their fine restaurant. And, worth every penny. So, we expected much better from the Capitol Grille. We hope the Hermitage understands the problem. It really pains us to write this review. But, that’s what happened. We expected so much more. In the meantime, enjoy your stay at the Hermitage and eat elsewhere.

Room Tip: Pick a room with the view of the Capitol Building
