We were traveling with several teenagers for a youth convention, and I feel as if the front desk staff was anticipating our arrival with dread and expected to have trouble with our group before they had ever met us. They weren't exactly rude, but less than welcoming. Two days into our stay, a hotel employee with a guest tried to access one of the rooms we were staying in. Her roster said that the room was vacant. She said she would make a note of it and resolve the problem. A couple of hours later, the front desk staff called and told us that we were not authorized to be in the room. I took my documentation to the front desk where I was told that there was a computer glitch but it was cleared up. While I was there, I witnessed the front desk staff upgrading another couple to a suite because the hotel had mistakenly double-booked our room. At this point, we weren't even given a mild apology for the mistake. Over the next hour, 2 more hotel employees attempted to access the room to show it to potential clients. Members of our group were inside, at times changing clothes while this happened. Upon the second attempt, a chaperone in another room stepped into the hallway and politely told the manager who was attempting to access the room about the continued problem. The manager asked the chaperone a question about the problem, and then as the chaperone attempted to answer the question, the manager held up her hand in the chaperone's face and said, "Not right now, I'm with a client." I have to add that we did not cause a single problem for the staff during our stay, left our rooms in good condition, and paid a hefty sum to stay there. When we checked out the next day, we were overcharged for the fourth room because the computer system still did not show it as having been reserved by us at the reduced conference rate.
In addition, the air conditioning units in the rooms were substandard. The temperature could not be set any lower than 68 degrees; however, at 68 degrees, one room would be hot and stuffy and another one, freezing cold. Many members of our group could not sleep and woke up drenched in sweat because of the humidity, regardless of how cool the room was.
