Basically what you'd expect of a Holiday Inn Express. The property was clean and the staff were generally friendly and helpful (especially the front desk staff) though we encountered two who seemed lacking in wanting to work. We stayed two nights and our housekeeping service consisted of the housekeeper, seeing us walking toward our suite, asked if there was anything we needed. We said towels, which she gave us, and then discovered she felt her work was complete as she never returned to empty trash or make beds.
Both days staff were unable to keep up with the work load to keep the breakfast buffet replinished. Lots of waiting for basic things like eggs, bagels etc... It was as if they were suprised to see so many hungry people coming down for breakfast. The hotel seemed pretty full (just before the CMA awards) but they should plan for staff and food based on reservations, right? While most staff seemed to be working hard, there was again the one employee who stood around chatting about work being hard to find - loved the irony.
Be advised that while some HIEs have a hot tub - this one does not.
Maybe I'm the only one who'd make the mistake, but not being familiar with Nashville (or too much with country music) I thought the hotel would be near the original Opryland where we had booked a show - but it's not. It's a 20 minute/$15 parking ride away. BTW, I learned the hard way that downtown after dark (e.g. - after the Opryland show) is not appropriate for children. It put me in mind of New Orleans withoutt he beads and toplessless but with plenty of live music and drunk rebel rousers swearing loudly as they staggered up the street. Aside from the drive, the hotel is in a seemingly safer and more appropriate area for families than downtown.
