“Never Again. Very Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2010

We had stayed at the Hotel Indigo - Nashville West End location on the way to Indiana from Florida. On the way home, we decided to try the Hotel Indigo - Nashville Downtown. And I will never stay at this hotel again.

The only thing the hotel has going for it is location. It is just a few short blocks to all the attractions, clubs and honkey tonks.

The rooms were tiny. Barely enough room to walk around the bed and no where to place your luggage. By contrast, the Hotel Indigo West End had rooms four times bigger and much nicer. This hotel is in a renovated old building. But if they couldn't make the rooms any larger, then they should have picked another building.

Service at the front desk was basically zero. We were lucky to even find someone at the front desk while we were there. Self parking is $20 per night and valet is $22. No free coffee in the lobby. This was all very disappointing considering the high prices they charge for a room.

There are many other quality hotel chains in the downtown area, and I would recommend that you choose one of the other ones. You sure do not get what you paid for in this case.

This was my second time staying at a Hotel Indigo (first one was in Florida). I am an experienced traveler as I travel weekly for business. I read the reviews & thought it would be a great hotel.

When I checked into the hotel, they could not find my reservation, even though I had a confirmation number. Fortunately, they had rooms available and were able to honor the rate I had booked.
I find the rooms to be cold, no carpet in the rooms except for a rug which is barely large enough for the bed to sit on. I actually stepped on a piece of glass and cut my foot! I was afraid to walk around barefoot after that. It looked as if they did not clean the floors.

When I settled in my room, I found several strands of someone else's long dark hair in the toilet. Looked as if someone cleaned out their hairbrush and the toilet was never cleaned. The showers do not have doors and even if you have the water temp as hot as possible, there is a draft of cold air. There is also no place to hang the towel close to the shower.

The "fitness studio" was pretty weak. There were no towels available and barely any water in the water cooler. As I finished my workout (over an hour + later, someone brought in towels.)

To top it all off, the staff was not very friendly or helpful.

I will not stay here or any Hotel Indigo again.

The good.

Very clean.
Good location.
We paid $83.00 per night thru Priceline.
Good bartender and Bloody Marys.

Not so good.

Very small rooms.
Saturday night dinner was not a good value.
No place to hang towel so you can reach it after showering.

We requested to change rooms after maintance "fixed" the smoke alarm on their third trip. Their solution was to disable the alarm. We did not want to stay in a 15th floor room with a nonworking smoke alarm. The office personal called our room back after we reported the alarm was still going off repeadly after maintance's second trip to repair the alarm. That was kind of insulting since they could hear the ear piercing alarm over the phone. We asked for a mananger but they said there was not one on duty on a very busy Saturday at midmorning. We moved to a fourth floor room that had a lot of street noise at night.

Recently stayed 2 nights celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. The room was large, clean and well equipped. Very quiet and an excellent location. Within walking distance to TPAC, restaurants and entertainment. Has valet parking for $22/day. Very pleasant getaway. Would stay there again.

Great location, great service, lovely rooms, terrific restaurant/bar. This was a CMA MusicFest/FanFair trip -- an extremely busy/hectic/chaotic time in Nashville. Hotel Indigo was a MUCH welcomed respite from the heat & crowds. We ate most of our meals in the blissfully cool & uncrowded hotel restaurant. Didn't need a car as the location is perfect for FanFair. Would stay here again in a heartbeat - much friendlier and better service than the Hilton in Nashville. Only caveats: could have used double-paned windows as street noise was significant (but it WAS during FanFair...); and one early morning housekeeping went through & pounded on all doors even though they could clearly tell guests were sleeping by the do-not-disturb status on the automatic door lock system. Other than that, it was as close to a perfect stay as we could ever hope for. It's on the pricey side, but so worth it! :-)

This hotel started off on the wrong foot. When we booked it using our frequent traveler points, a mysterious charge for US$31.31 appeared on our credit card. When we called to complain, the hotel employee ignored the complaint and terminated the call. When we immediately called back and a different employee answered, he apologized for the mistake and said they would remove the "$31.31 charge from your bill". The problem was, we never said what the amount being charged was! How did they know? Scam? While we were uneasy about this, we decided to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt and kept our reservation.
PROS:
Indigo Hotel is in a fantastic location close to downtown. The decor is modern and pleasant and a great break from the cookie cutter hotels that define the chains. It has a full service Starbucks in the lobby and great live music (but doesn't everywhere in Nashville?). Especially considering the location, parking is easy and convenient and it is easy to enter and exit the parking garage attached to the hotel.
CONS:
While the staff is nice and helpful, the perception is that this is due to a lot more to their warm southern personality than to any staff training. In sharp contrast to an employee at say a "Hilton Garden Inn", they do not know what to do when they make a mistake. For instance, when we arrived we were assigned a suite in the 6th floor. Once we were already settled into the room (no easy feat with a young toddler), the front desk called our room and said they had assigned us the "wrong" room and that they would be coming to exchange our keys. A young woman came and exchanged our room keys and left without further comment. That is correct, no help with the luggage or explanation. We finally settled in our downgraded room, as it was a regular room vs. a suite, on the 10th floor.
The beds are lower quality than you would find in a chain hotel of a similar price and the furniture is attractive but not very practical. What really took the cake was that the pack n’ play that the hotel provided for our toddler was dirty. It had chips and crumbs from whatever toddler had used it last. That did not speak very well of the hotel’s overall cleanliness. Any respectable hotel chain would have tried to atone for all of these amateurish mistakes: Billing mistake – free upgrade?, Check-in mistake – would you like bottled water? Dirty crib – profuse apologizing! Hotel Indigo employees were totally clueless and did not offer even the smallest of apologies, being more concerned with looking through their purse than looking at the customer (this actually happened at the front desk!). However, it seems this is more a reflection on the total lack of training than with the actual employees themselves who seemed really nice.
OVERALL:
Hotel Indigo is unique and well located and ok if you think of want to think of their rough management as quaint. However, to us, it comes across as pretentious.

This is a beautiful hotel, completely untouched by the recent flooding, and in a great locaiton - walking distance to the "downtown" honkey tonks, Country Music Hall of Fame, th Ryman Auditorium, numerous restaurants, and the Titan's stadium. The room was nicely appointed, the hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and there was a true Starbucks in the lobby. Always a bonus in my book. The one complaint we had was that they seemed a little stingy on towels (there were 3 women in our room and we need lots and lots of towels), as well as things like shampoo, soap, and lotion. With travel restrictions being what they are, I've come to depend on having those in the room rather than toting them with me. The one recommendation I have is to self park, while it only saves you $2 a day, the parking garage is attached to the hotel and you get in and out on the ticket for the entire time you pay. However, you do need to pay in advance with cash or check.
