“Wonderful alternative to a hotel--great B and B!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014

After looking at the hotel prices in downtown Nashville, I searched for an alternative and found something wonderful! The Big Bungalow is a charming home. it's right on the edge of a neighborhood that is "turning over," and the neighborhood is a great place to explore. Ellen has many suggestions for places to visit, and her suggestions were wonderful. She made dinner reservations for us and gave us a coupon to save a nice bundle! We stayed in the Valentine Suite and loved the deep bathtub and the comfortable surroundings. Wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the back porch! I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Big Bungalow! If you were going to a Titans game, you could conceivably walk from here. You even get free secured parking. Great experience!

Room Tip: There are three rooms, and I checked them all out. The Big Suite would be great even for a family. i...

It was our first time in Nashville, and me and my husband really couldn't make up our mind to stay in one of the standard hotels in the city. They all looked pretty much the same, were rather expensive and none stood out it seemed to us. Coming from Europe, we wanted something a bit more personal in order to get a feel for the city we were visiting. Ellen's place proved to be exactly the right thing for us and we can definitely recommend a stay if you almost want to feel like you are living in Nashville. Looking back, the time in Nashville was one of the highlights of our trip. Although it certainly is a rather personal set up (after all it's three guest rooms in the house you share with the hostess), in no way you don't have your own privacy. You receive first-hand information about what to do and where to go, and we had a great time following Ellen's recommendations. You'll be provided with home-cooked breakfast in the morning and can come and go during your stay as you please with your own key.

We 'only' gave it 4 out of 5 points due to two reasons:
a) We deliberately booked and occupied the smallest of the three guest rooms, but since the curtains were affixed and there wasn't a great view, the room felt a bit stuffy. However, we were out and about all day, so it didn't matter to us. If you plan to spend more amount of time in your room, then you would probably want to go for one of the bigger rooms, if you just want a place to recover at night from a busy sightseeing trip, then go for it. It's clean and for us that was the most important thing.
b) The breakfast is cooked for you and one portion is served. We found it quite delicious, but people who are 'fussy eaters' or want more choice might not be happy with it. Especially Europeans or other non-English speakers who might have language problems in expressing their preferred options. A little juice, cereal and fruit corner would have made it perfect.

And yes, you can walk to and from downtown Nashville, it's about 20 minutes by foot.

All in all we would be back, as we really enjoyed our time in the Big Bungalow.

This was our first stay with Ellen W at the Big Bungalow, and it won't be our last. Its a great value. We stayed in the largest room; the bed was very comfortable and the bath truly luxurious - Wonderful thoughtful items like makeup removal towelettes and good toiletries. Next time we will plan enough time to have a massage! The neighborhood is chock full of lovely craftsman style bungalows... and very convenient to most of Nashville's attractions. The Big Bungalow is chock-full of interesting and ecletic art... who needs a museum, you could spend a couple hours just looking at the house contents! And breakfast was superb - we had a lovely quiche as the main course. Ellen and Chrissy are great hostesses (and cooks); they made us feel like welcomed friends, and also made us dinner reservations at a very classy local restaurant... We WILL be back!

Ellen greeted us like friends. This is the way a B&B should be! Our room was very nice and the B&B is close enough to the city that you could walk across the pedestrian bridge... but it was raining! The breakfast, and the company of the other guests at breakfast, was VERY nice! I'd LOVE to come back and stay longer!

This is a great bed and breakfast. We stayed for a week.
For starts Ellen is such a great host. If you don't know quite what you're doing she will always have a good suggestion.
The b&q is right next to East Nashville also, which has so much good stuff to do and places to eat. Really felt home there.
When it comes to breakfast as well, everyday was something different and amazing. They really set me up for the day.
Can't recommend this place enough, book it up. You won't regret it.

I was referred to the Big Bungalow by another B&B that was full and I'm certainly glad they did! The house was beautiful and filled with amazing artwork, some of which was created by Ellen's artist family & friends. It was cozy, inviting and I truly felt I was staying at the house of a much-loved family friend. I also loved the area, East Nashville, as there were plenty of great areas to check out nearby and some fabulous restaurants!

My best friend and I stayed in the little room (but had a sneak peek into other, larger rooms which were also lovely!) and were more than comfortable and happy, even with our own bathroom that we had to walk down the hallway to access.

Breakfasts were great, filling and provided at the hour we requested. Good sleep and good food, what more can you ask for?

On top of this, Ellen was a gem! She was such a pleasure to meet and speak with and she was quick to offer (great!) suggestions based on our interests. Many thanks to her for a fantastic intro to Nashville! We'll be back.

An excellent B & B in an older section of Nashville, a neighborhood of saved and preserved Craftsman style homes, which I love.

Ellen Warshaw is the owner and operator and makes sure you're taken care of and well fed in the morning, with LARGE, delicious breakfasts. If you're not a big eater in the morning be sure and mention it to her or like me, she will serve you far more than you can eat.

The house is a beautifully preserved example of the Craftsman style, with three large rooms available. The smallest does have a bathroom down the hall but the "Valentine Suite" has it's own bathroom and a large Jacuzzi right in the bedroom. The biggest suite (I forget the name of it even though it's the one we stayed in) is quite large with a huge bathroom and Jacuzzi tub and a separate sitting room with TV.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Room Tip: See above description.
