“Excellent view, food, and service”
Reviewed 12 September 2009

This was the third time we have stayed at Christopher Place, the previous two times being in July 2005 and July 2006. As you might imagine, we have enjoyed our stay there every time.

The inn is secluded, yet it's close to I-40 and downtown Newport (about five miles). You would never know the interstate is near though, as you cannot see it nor hear any traffic whatsoever from the veranda of the inn, even in the calm of the evening.

Christopher Place is located in a beautiful area of the Smokies near English Mountain. The view of the mountains from the balcony is gorgeous and makes you feel miles away from everything. The inn itself is beautiful and elegant. There are plenty of amenities. There is an exercise room, sauna, heated pool, tennis court, and pool table and board games in the game room. The pool was nice and clean. The exercise room was nice but left a little to be desired; the TV had been removed from it and the treadmill was non-functional because the safety key had either been taken by another guest or lost.

We stayed in Camelot, the same room we had stayed in back in 2006. The room had been renovated since then and is very nice. It has a nice king-sized bed, large window overlooking the balcony and mountains, and a spacious shower. The plumbing must have been improved somehow because I remember during the previous stay there the shower would occasionally go ice-cold for a few moments. This never happened during our stay this time.

The service from the staff was excellent. We were consistently asked if we needed anything, and the staff and owner were very courteous. My wife requested a specific dish for breakfast for one of the mornings during our stay (before we even arrived), and they accommodated us. They are flexible and sensitive to dietary requests.

Breakfast was served at our leisure between 7-10 AM. We had dinner on one night of our stay, which was easily one of the best meals I have ever eaten, and one of the highlights of our stay.

There were a few small downsides to our stay. We felt the bed linens weren't of great quality, though they were clean. A few of our bathroom towels were beginning to fray and seemed like they needed to be replaced. A few times during our stay while we were outside we heard barking dogs a short way down the hill, which was slightly annoying considering we wanted to get away from our neighbors' barking dogs at home. However, these are all minor complaints and we still feel that our stay was excellent overall.

We highly recommend this intimate B&B to anyone looking to just get away to a beautiful and romantic location.

Christopher Place (CP) is such a cool place to relax, unwind and just get far, far away from "City Life". Our room was "Camelot" and it was huge and had a wonderful view of the Smoky Mountains as well as a perfect wireless Internet access experience.

We like to hike and the Cosby Campground Area is a short drive from CP to several amazing hikes (Mt. Cammerer @ 12 miles & Hen Wallow Falls @ 4 miles) and afterwards, a dip in the pool at CP was a welcome relief.

Tim & Amanda took great care of us and the Full Breakfast in the morning left us feeling wonderful each day and ready for all the hiking we did! I would highly recommend the price fix dinner in the evening and we regret only having dinner one night. Next year, we will budget in more money to include dinner each evening. Of course, the Hamburger served to us in the "Library/Bar" area was perfect!

I am generally not a huge cat lover due to allergies, but the combination "Guard Cat" and "House Trail Guide Cat" named Ringo was priceless. This cat brought a smile to our face each day we saw him!

A perfect R & R vacation and we are looking at a return date in July 2010...we need to purchase a CP creamer to go with our CP coffee mugs! Thanks again CP!

We went their on our honeymoon and we wish we would not have ever left the place. Service was great, food was great, room was beautiful. The hotel is a rennovated mansion that has a breathtaking view to the Smoky Mountains. There is an air of tranquility. Will definitely go back.

Every aspect of our stay was wonderful. I spoke to them several times on the phone prior to arriving to solidify our plans, change plans, get directions, gather information etc... each time they handled us with complete professionalism and were courteous even though we had to make adjustments in our arrangements. When we arrived we were awed by the property itself and its great location. We arrived late in the evening and had not eaten and inquired about available food... the staff readily prepared us a wonderful meal -- even though it was only 15 minutes from the last service time. It was wonderful food, a fantastic atmosphere and great service. We were thrilled with the rooms, and the attention we received. Definitely will go back and recommend it highly!!!

This was the most beautiful place to have a small intimate wedding. Our whole family reserved the bed and breakfast for my son's wedding. Not only was the view spectacular, the rooms were beautiful and spacious. The food was beyond excellent. The staff was great and made the stay that much more enjoyable. If you want to get away to a special place with a loved one or with a small group, please do not pass up the chance to see this place.

My husband and I booked this for our anniversary. So exiceted when we arrived. The bullding was beautiful. Nobody to greet us though We wandered around about 15 minutes and finally a housekeeper arrived. She showed us to our room. We noticed a distinct smell when we walked in. Soon we found swarming ladybugs on the ceiling, falling on the bed in the windows, dead/live bugs on the floor and behind and under the bed. I pulled back the pillows and sheets to find dead bugs there too. Hense the smell. The housekeeper offered to vacuum abut said they would just come back since she just vacuumed 45 minutes ago and that they had bugs in every room. She called the owner who was less than curteous. For a select location such as this, we were very surprised with the curt response we got from the owner"THEY'RE JUST LADYBUGS THEY DON'T BITE". We did get our deposit back but he said "GOOD LUCK WITH FINDING ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY" and hurried us out the door.Thank goodness we got reservations at the Berry Springs Lodge where we stayed last year and ended up having a wonderful weekend. I guess the owner at Christopher Place expects his customers to sleep tight as the bed bugs don't bite!
