This was an older motel, but the room we had came with the back door that opened to the little Pigeon River, with the ducks and geese. They weren't a problem, unless someone was feeding them at the back doors. Room as clean, staff very friendly, good location, not a full thrills hotel, but a nice place to stay. Bring your own shampoo, they put soap in the room, but no shampoo. Bed were comfortable.

The misses and I decided to get away from it all and go to the Smokies for a long weekend, but where to stay? Every cabin in 100 miles is booked, and all we really wanted was a base of operation as we explored the shopping and nearby scenery. We decided on the River Place Inn on the day we left, and were happy to get a reservation for a queen sized bed. When we arrived, the place screamed "Dated" so loud that I was afraid of our choice. At checkin' we received a higher price than what was quoted over the phone, but the nice lady on duty confirmed our rate based on a price list she had that was from their website. Dodged a thirty dollar overcharge by knowing (within one cent) how much the room should cost for three nights. She ran our card for the full amount at time of check-in. This was a bit concerning as there was a small plaque outlining the no refund policy.

After we crossed the street behind the office and made it to our building it was up a flight of stairs to the second level. Open the door, hit the lights...and it looks just like the brochure. Dated. Why do motels place the same picture over each bed? The chairs both were in fair shape, but showed signs of spills from over the years. The room smelled clean, almost chemically so. The beds were in good shape and had very clean linen. No bugs or signs of them either. The bathroom was SMALL, but that was no surprise. The highlight of the room was the balcony where the sounds of the Little Pigeon River hinted at a good view in the morning.

The next morning we awoke to the sound of ducks. That was a bonus as they provided some fun entertainment in the mornings and afternoons when we came back to recharge. The location of this place is great. It is just off the main strip, so the traffic noise is minimum. The beds were extremely comfortable.

A couple of strange things: Day 1 the maid brought towels late in the afternoon, long after the room was cleaned. Day 2 the maid did not make the bed, but just kinda straightened out the cover. Also on the morning of Day 1 a car was parked in the middle of the parking lot. The driver was staying in a room and said he had been called in the middle of the night and told he must move his car so another guest could have the parking spot next to their room door. That is just weird.

Overall, a rather pleasant stay. So the burning question, would I return. Yes, absolutely. The location, cleanliness and quality of the beds are enough to bring me back. If you don't have to have a shiny new hotel room, and just want a clean place to sleep, this may be you're ticket too.

We booked online based on the pictures posted online. The decor has not been changed since the early 70's and neither has the bed linens!! The box springs and mattress were sitting on 2x4's that the old, nasty comforter didn't cover. The fake plant in the corner was hiding under a thick layer of dust. Although someone clearly made the bed and replenished the dingy, at one time white, towels, they did not replenish the coffee or cups. For God's sake don't get anything from the vending machine!! I highly recommend not staying here!!!

We stayed at The River PLace inn for my Birthday, we did not have reservations but was thinking that we were getting a good deal for the time of year. They down graded us to 2 full size beds from Queen size beds. The bath tub was nasty it had hair in it and i had to clean it before i could let my kids get in, We got bit by something during the night. The door you could see under and we did not feel safe the kids slept that night but we did not. At midnight i was looking for better accomadations for the next night or we could just go home. The AC did not work well.

We took this motel because we were going ti take our dog with us. We decided not to take her, but went ahead and stayed here. the rooms were not very clean and the staff was not very friendly. Only good thing was the fact you could sit on your patio and overlook the Little Pigeon Forge River. Very noisy and never did see anyone in the pool area. not even sure if it was open.

We stayed here back in July for the first time and I had never talked with anyone that had stayed here before. I found them on the internet and just chanced it and called. Talked with a wonderful woman named Ruby. She explained all they had, I explained what I needed (like a patio on the river to feed the ducks, ground floor, etc) and was pleasantly surprised when I arrived and everything as correct, the room was nice, the patio great, TONS of ducks to feed and not one mistake made on my reservation (which ususally happens every time I go somewhere). We were so impressed we made reservations to go back in two weeks and AGAIN the room was right, the rate was GREAT, and we AGAIN got what we wanted. Decided at last minute to go on Labor Day weekend and there was no problem, requests fulfilled and now it feels like home when we go there. So far we have met Ruby (which I call and ask for all the time), Bonita during Labor Day weekend and she was just as great. They go out of their way to get you what you want, the room, you want, the way you like it, reservations are easy, and I just couldnt' be more pleased. I think I have found my home away from home and will probably not stay anywhere else unless they are full and then I'll stay on a wait list in case someone cancels. Give them a try, call Miss Ruby and tell her you saw this on here. She'll remember the lady that always ask for the ground floor patio duck feeding rooms.

Room Tip: tell them what you are looking for. They have condos, hotel rooms, cabin...let them know. the condo...
