My companion and I decided to travel to Rugby Tennessee for a quiet, relaxing vacation. We recently bought a canoe and were looking for good water and fish! Little did we know that our choice would afford us those things and much much more.
We arrived and were greeted by proprietress, Linda Jones. She welcomed us and showed us to our room Grey Gables has had many guests in their almost 17 years in business, however, we found out that our room was once occupied by former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Roselyn in the late 1990's.

The rooms at Grey Gables are very cozy and all have a view of either a field of horses from the "front" or the "backyard" which is a lush green woods. Most rooms have private baths with great water pressure! (Very important after a long day on the river)

One reason that we chose Grey Gables is that the cost includes a gourmet plateau dinner. Linda Jones is known for her cooking and she prepares both a big country breakfast AND a gourmet plauteau 'supper" for all of her guests. Dinner fare, for us, ranged from tenderloin to salmon. (Soup, salad, entree, ,dessert) . Many drink options were available, but we chose the popular almond tea each night. During dinner we were able to get to know other guests and Bill (Linda's husband). Bill has a great wealth of informatioin on almost any topic and we enjoyed his enthusiasm in helping us find the rigt water for our fishing adventures.

We purchased wine at a local winery and enjoyed that while watching the evening close in as we sat on one of the front porch swings chatting with Bill and petting the resident kitty, Callie.
Bill runs a family general store, just down the road that is a communtiy meeting place as well as an antiques store and place to get a bologna sandwich on the run. The Jones' host "Rugby at Rugby" each year, in which rugby teams from UT, WKU and others around the region come together to play for bragging rites.

Linda has written a cookbook/history book/memoir that is a must buy for any patron. It contains her wonderful recipes along with her memories of growing up in this rural Tennessee area and history of the town of Rugby.

After 5 wonderful days at Grey Gables, we didn't want to leave. My companion told Linda that he thought that I wanted them to adopt me, which is not far from the truth! The best adjective that I can use to describe our visit is "warm." Even though we visited in the heat of July, we were warmed from within by the welcoming, "homelike" friendliness of the innkeepers. We plan to return and know that we have made friends for life in these two wonderful people and wish that your stay here is as placid or adventurous as you wish it to be.

Three couples traveling on our motorcycles. Found this place on internet and decided to stay the night July 2006. Our stay at Grey Gables was the highlight of our four day trip. The accomodations were great. Ten bedrooms provided a great choice of rooms to suit all our friends. Linda fixed a dinner that evening and breakfast the next morning that included some of the best food I have ever experienced. Linda's husband owns a small country store just down the road from the inn. Be sure you stop in for a bologna/cheese sandwich. And check out all the antiques in the store. Linda and her husband are friendly host who like to visit with their guests. We will definintely return to Grey Gables for a stay. We would highly recommend this bed and breakfast to our friends and all who read this review. Linda has a new cookbook coming out soon. Be sure you order yours. Thanks Grey Gables for a great time.

My husband and I stayed at the Grey Gables in February 2004 as a romantic weekend visit to nearby Rugby. We were the only guests and were treated like royalty. We also had our choice of lovely country-style rooms to stay in. Linda, our hostess, provided both dinner and breakfast the next day. Since the inn is several miles from a grocery store or restaurant, this is a must.
Linda is a gourmet cook and both meals were outstanding. Breakfast was no muffins and coffee affair, either! Yum!
I highly recommend the Grey Gables for a romantic weekend or even a small family reunion since the place has about 10 rooms, most with a private bath. Don't forget to go by Rugby, a historic Victorian-style village, just down the road.
