This is one of the neat views of Chattanooga gorge. In the months went the air is clean and vision is clear makes for a nice folding chair kick back read a book day.

Overlooking the 'grand canyon' of Tennessee, you can imagine being camped out on this point during the civil war so you could signal to the troops in downtown Chattanooga of any movements on the river - or pass along the messages from the supply depot in Bridgeport Alabama. You can see downtown from here, the tip of Lookout Mountain, Elder Mountain directly across the vista and look to the West and you can see where the 'suck' used to occur in the river and they used mules and ropes to pull steamboats past the confluence in the river where suck creek empties into the Tennessee river. Especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves are changing color.

No matter the season a visit to Signal Point is a must if you are in Chattanooga. Wear your walking shoes as you will be walking down a slope and then back up.

Cool comfortable September evening, too early for fall colors but still very breath taking views of the mountain ridge and the Tenn River.

Signal Point is really just a lookout point on the top of Signal Mountain--which affords great views down the Tennessee River Valley. It was the site of Union signal fires sending messages to federal troops during the Civil War. Great place to picnic - and see the view - but not much else.
