Dogwood Cabins at Trillium Cove
Certificate of Excellence

We found several positives as we stayed in Bear Creek cabin near Laurel Valley Golf Course this week but unfortunately, the negatives of the cabin's cleanliness far outweigh the positives.

Starting with the positives, Bear Creek cabin is a very nice one BR with a queen bed, and a king size bed in the sleeping loft. The layout of the cabin is very nice, although the master bath is located off of the sleeping loft, which we thought was a bit odd but not a problem. The furniture in the living room and the kings sized bed was very comfortable, much more comfortable than other cabins we have stayed in on past visits to the Gatlinburg area. The cabin is very shaded which makes for very comfortable seating on the back deck, or the front porch, and the gas grill provided allows many opportunities for preparing your meals rather than eating at the local restaurants. We found the kitchen equipped with pretty much any utensils, dishes, or tableware that we would want. The cabin is easily accessible from US 321, with many great views of the Laurel Valley Golf Course on the drive. The resort has a security guard at the entrance during the evening hours, who was always pleasant and joking when we arrived home from the day's activities.

The negatives of the cabin though, FAR outweigh the positives. We found the cleanliness and general appeal of the cabin to be woefully inadequate in comparison to other cabins that we have used in past visits to the area. First off, in the kitchen above the cabinet over the sink, and in the master bathroom areas there were hanging cobwebs in locations that would easily be reachable by dust mops. In the ceiling light in the master bathroom there were umpteen dead insects that were clearly visible when the light was on. On several locations on the ceiling in the master bathroom there were spots of mold. The walls in all areas of the house with the exception of the living room, had not been painted with a finish coat, and were covered with many scuffs and smudges. The only shower that was located in the cabin had the moldiest and poorest fitting shower curtain liners that we have seen. And the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms all had the shoddiest trim we have seen in any rental cabin we have used in the past.

For the services provided by Dogwood Cabins, the staff appears to be friendly, but very disinterested about the complaints that we brought to their attention. Upon checking in, we were told to make sure all trash was taken to the community trash bins. We took the trash there twice during our visit, and BOTH times the garbage bin was not there, which forced us to make the trek to the Dogwood Cabins office to dispose of the garbage. When we checked out, and informed the staff of the cabin's general dirtiness, I was informed that the owners of the cabin had been there in June and performed a "thorough cleaning". Please judge for yourself from the pictures uploaded.

We loved the quiet side of the Smokies that Townsend provided, but we will not be using Dogwood Cabins in the future.

This is the first time we booked with the Dogwood Cabins. The check-in went so smooth, Nancy was so very helpful and even gave us some suggestions of good places to eat. We stayed at the Wolfe's Den. OH MY, it was so awesome. It was a steep drive all the way up to our cabin, in fact we were told that this was the 'highest' one that Dogwood had and when we booked she said if we were afraid of heights, this one would not work. It took us approx. 15 min. drive time from highway 321. It is only 5 miles, but took that long because of all the curves, but it was well worth the drive!! Every morning we woke up to the beautiful view from our deck. The cabin was spotless and had everything we needed. There was even a pool table, which my husband and I didn't think we would even touch, however, we ended up having several pool games. It rained almost every day we were in Townsend ( we stayed 5 nights), but it didn't bother us at all, because we had the cozy cabin to stay in. I would highly recommend staying at this cabin!!!!

We booked Eastanelle and loved it. It worked out perfect having a 2 yr. old with us. Everything you could need to grill and relax on the back deck. Loved that the hot tub was off to the side. We had a problem. They came and fixed it right away and were apologetic about the problem. Have stayed in other cabins before. Will use Dogwood Cabins again. Staff is great.

Townsend is our go to place when we need to distress.....and staying at Dogwood in Trillium Cove is always a good experience. We stayed at "Peaceful Hollow", a lovely one bedroom with sleeping loft, large open kitchen and living area and awesome screened in porch. It was clean, well-equipped with all the amenities that we like in a rental. We have never had a bad experience renting at Dogwood...this is the third cabin we have stayed at...all different but all wonderful. We are already planning our next stay!

Nancy Hall Hodge is amazing. I tell her what I'm looking for and she hits the ball out of the park EVERY time. I've been staying with Dogwood Cabins in Townsend for the past 9 summers. This year I was in a different cabin (I've stayed in 5 or 6) and it was wonderful! Rustic and lovely at the same time. All the amenities I wanted without losing that homey character I love! The view was great and the peace and quiet was just what I needed.

Nancy and Chad at Dogwood are folks I trust to ALWAYS look out for me when I'm looking for a great place to stay!

My family and I stayed in A Valley View Hideaway cabin. The cabin itself had a wonderful layout-
-tall ceilings, large kitchen, wrap-around deck with a great view, 3 fireplaces (2 inside and one outside), 2 bedrooms, and 3 full baths, which made getting ready in the morning less stressful. It was located in a fairly secluded area making it a very private cabin. The cabin also had a washer/dryer and fully stocked kitchen, which included all the cooking pans, cups, utensils, etc. It had dish soap and a dishwasher which made it really easy to clean up after ourselves.

The downsides we encountered include the following:

-The general cleanliness of the cabin--the couch cushions were fairly stained and there were lots of dead bugs on the floor and in the couch cushions, There was also a lot of dust in areas that are just out of reach, i.e. fans, fireplace mantels, above windows, etc. The bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchens, however, felt clean.

- The cabin itself was a bit difficult to find not because of the directions given, but because there are no signs to indicate you are on the right path, and because it is fairly secluded we started to doubt if we were going the right way.

- Be aware that even if you are staying for only a few days (such as my family was staying) you are only given a certain amount of toilet paper. If you run out, you have to buy your own. I recommend bringing some with you, as we did run out.

All in all the pros certainly outweighed the cons.

This was the third time we have returned to stay at the Bethany House. It is in the Laurell Valley area and kinda overlooks the golf course. First time we came in the spring when there was no leaves on the trees. A nice house which our boys enjoyed staying at. Its kind of a family tradition to come stay here.
