“Great option for the area”
Reviewed 9 May 2012

This trip was a VERY last minute decision & the place hosting the event we were attending (down the street) was booked-up, so we depended on TripAdvisor (again) and were VERY satisfied. From the comments made by folks who stayed at the "fancy place down the street", we were the lucky ones for once. Our late night call to book on Thursday still reached a friendly voice. We anticipated a late arrival (after office hours) so the door was left open with the key inside - registration followed the next morning, perfect solution. As indicated by other reviewers, the facility is clean and tidy - covers all the basic needs and was a good value. Interesting detail - the walls between the rooms are block walls - so no snoring neighbor sounds came through ;-) We will definitely use the TGI again when visiting the area, no question!

Room Tip: Don't think there are any bad rooms - a couple are in the process of being updated & it look...

I needed one night in Townsend so that I could be at Cade's Cove at sunrise the next morning. Townsend Gateway Inn was clean and quiet, and the hospitality was top-notch. The welcome baskets are great touch and include choice of coffee or tea, muffin, and other snacks. My family of 12 (parents, siblings and their families) has already booked again for our trip this summer.

My wife and I spent one night at the the Gateway Inn while attending a wedding in Townsend. The motel took me back in time, in a good way, to my childhood days in the 70's when we went on vacation. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The motel has kept it's charm by not making everything ultra modern. I would recommend to others passing through Townsend to stay a night or two. The location is connected to the bike path and within a few minutes of the National Park and local restaurants.

It's nice to see small family owned businesses in the Townsend area survive. We as consumers need to help keep a part of American history alive by helping support motels and restaurants of this type.

Room Tip: I believe a pool and fire pit are being added.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the TGI. This stay was just as nice and relaxing as our previous stay at this location back last October. We absolutely love the friendliness of the owners and the feel of this small hotel. We were able to stay in the exact same room (Room 6) that we stayed in before and it was SPOTLESS. The bed was comfortable and the basket of goodies each day was really great. We took those snacks with us as we explored the Smokies each day.

The hotel is in the process of remodeling a couple more rooms so maybe we will get to try one of those on our next trip. The rates are good and the “Peaceful” side of the Smokies definitely lived up to it's name. Can't wait for our next trip there and I'm sure we will stay with the fine folks at TGI yet again.

Room Tip: A remote control come with the heating and air unit in Room 6.

If you are looking for a nice, quiet place to stay.....you have arrived. Motel is extremely clean....my husband's socks were as clean as when he put them on after walking aound in our room. The rooms have been remodeled and reflect the motel as it was in the past...very tasteully done. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating. You can walk to various eating places and ride your bikes on the bike trail in front of the hotel. Better book now for the summer...these rooms will go FAST. The only negative for us was having to leave.

Room Tip: We stayed in room eight....great view sitting outside our room and looking at the dam across the str...

We stayed at the Gateway Inn while hiking in the Smokies. It makes up for it's size with over sized friendliness and attention to details. When we arrived they wanted to know what kind of muffin we liked for breakfast and made sure our favorites were in the basket of goodies they give you when you check in.

This is a quiet place. Being an older hotel it has solid walls. The hardwood floors are a nice touch. It was very clean and roomy.

We loved this small, quaint family owned hotel. The owners went out of their way to make our trip extra special by giving us tips about things to do and restaurants in the area.It is an older motel, but rooms are spotless. They are also adding a swimming pool and fire pit soon. My husband really enjoyed the goodie basket that was filled with muffins, cookies and coffee.(They fill it every day when they clean the room)We will definately be back to TGI.
