This is what a small vacation motel should be. Clean, with modern appliances and personal amenities all over the place. (Collette was going out to get some Hummingbird feeders after our suggestion!) This is a well run family business, and someone is always around to answer questions or just chat. We're going back.

I would like to say on behalf of my church family at New Hope Baptist in Ellijay GA. the experience we had at Gateway inn was great. I appreciate the christian atmosphere that was shown during our stay. The rooms were very clean and our children had a great time playing out front with the games that Dave and Collett provided . I would recommend this inn to all my family and friends. Pastor Steve Jones

We'd already been in the Smokies for about a week, and we needed a place for only one more night, so we decided to try Townsend Gateway Inn. The hotel owners were the kindest people and attentive to their guests. The motel was built in the Fifties, but was extremely well maintained, is equipped with wifi, nicely painted, rooms were clean, grounds spotless and they brought a welcome basket full of snacks, teas and coffee. They have rocking chairs outside each room, and I found it a great place to paint or read. My husband and I watched the smoky mist descend on the mountain nearby while we had some tea. Also, we stopped at a local Day Lilly farm where we'd picked up a few plants. Just as we were entering the motel driveway, the plants tipped over in the back of our vehicle! We asked the owner if we could borrow a vacuum cleaner, and he took care of it for us --- car was immaculate. If you want to experience true Townsend hospitality, look no further. And the place is only about a mile from the entrance to Smoky Mountain National Park.

My fiancée and I had to leave Florida suddenly to travel to a funeral in Illinois, so I consulted Trip Advisor to see where we could stay along the way. Based on the reviews from the site, we decided to give the Townsend Gateway Inn a try. It was wonderful! Even though we were only passing through Tennessee, this family-run hotel far exceeded our expectations. Dave, the owner, was a charming host, who made us feel welcome immediately. The rooms were extremely clean, and the beds were so comfortable, I fell asleep almost at once!
I have already recommended this hotel to family in Illinois (snowbirds who travel back and forth), and my fiancée and I have decided we will definitely return to this little gem!

We stayed here for a weekend getaway and was very pleased with our room and service. The rooms are quaint and VERY clean. It is run by a very hard working family and they were very friendly and helpful. This is on the quiet side of the Smokies, but close enough to enjoy all the surrounding areas and entertainment. Will definitely stay again. Love the front porch rocking chairs! We also enjoyed the 'little' snack baskets left in our room daily.

We decided to stay here after reading the glowing reviews on Tripadvisor. We were not disappointed. As others have said, this is a 50's era motel that has been updated nicely. The furniture was comfortable, a nice chair and ottoman and the bed was comfy with nice linens. The towels were a little thin, but not too bad. The room was very clean with beautiful hardwood floors. You had rocking chairs in front of your room and could sit outside and listen to the mountain stream across the street. They had bicycles you could borrow for a ride along the bike bath through town. My only complaint was the "breakfast". The website states that a continental breakfast is included. A lovely snack basket was left in our room each day while we were out. While it was a nice touch to have the snacks to eat while driving around the mountain roads and hiking, I certainly would not call it breakfast. There were chips, pretzels, trail mix and microwave popcorn in the basket. The breakfast items consisted of, one day a small cereal bar and one day a prepackaged muffin. Tea or coffee were in the basket also, no juice or anything else. We went to the grocery and bought something more like breakfast to hold us over till lunch. It was a very nice basket, I just don't think they should advertise that breakfast is included. I have included pictures of the basket. I would probably stay here again. There are not a lot of motels to choose from in Townsend, as it is a small town.
