This was our second stay here and certainly not our last. We love this area and were so pleased to find such a gem in Townsend. As other reviews has stated, the rooms are large, clean and comfortable. The owners are helpful and friendly and we got to meet Micky, the cat on this visit. You really can't find anything around this nice and the price is great as well.

We stayed for two nights at the Inn. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are huge with comfy beds and wooden floors. In front of the room are two rocking chairs available for your use. The location is unbeatable in the quiet village of Townsend far away from the circus in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. There are several good restaurants close by and it is only a short drive to Cades Cove. Ideal if you want to visit the Cove at sunrise or sunset. Really enjoyed staying here!

My husband and I stayed at the Townsend Gateway Motel for one night (10/08/10). This motel is just a little piece of Americana. We absolutely loved it. We also really enjoyed the staff (Mike) and the motel kitty, who we think is named Mickey. The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and you also have a great view from your rocking chair on your porch. They also provide you with a small basket of snacks which was a pleasant surprise. We will definitely stay again!

We really enjoyed our three night stay. The motel was clean, comfortable and newly remodeled. It was really nice being close to everything like restaurants, grocery store and horseback riding. We could walk or use the bikes provided by the motel. We will stay there again on our next trip to the smokies.

We live about an hour away, but stayed here to be closer to Cades Cove and to just get away for a night. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was SUPER clean and a nice size. We have a toddler so this was incredibly important to us. The room was much quieter than modern hotel rooms which was nice. The only thing I didn't like was the air conditioner. It was really old and incredibly loud. Too warm to sleep without it, but too loud to sleep with it. Would have liked some type of breakfast, but they really don't have a space for it. After check out they found that we had left our sons stuffed animal in the sheets. They called our phone, but we didn't get the message until we were home. Next place we stay we will leave the cell number. Anyway, they priority mailed it to us and no charge saying they knew how important it was. Incredibly nice and helpful! Oh and the welcome snack baskets are a really nice touch as well!

Former Knoxvillians, we spent 3 nights in one of the stand-alone cabins adjacent to the motel rooms. These digs have a great room (combination kitchen and lounging area), queen bedroom, full bath, and walk-in closet/room. The full kitchen offers a 4-burner stove and oven, sink, fridge and microwave. A large country-style wooden dining set is provided. The living area comprises a futon sleeper-sofa and a large recliner-type chair from which to watch the flat screen TV mounted on the pine-panelled wall. The floors are a rustic hardwood....or perhaps, laminate... we couldn't tell if they were the real deal or not. Didn't matter, cuz they nicely compliment the piney walls. The bedroom has a queen bed, dresser w/ mirror and nite stand with lamp. Bathroom has a tub-shower, sink and commode. Toiletries are dispensed from wall-mounted containers on demand.

On our first nite at the Gateway Inn, we wanted to grill steaks we'd brought from the Fresh Market in Knoxville. The owners graciously provided us with charcoal for one of the grills they have on hand for guest use.

The location of this motel is ideal, just a quarter mile from the northwest entrance to the Smoky Mtns National Park, an area that is referred to locally as the "Townsend Y". As many other reviewers have noted, this is the "peaceful" side of the Smokies, because it is not overburdened with tourist attractions, amusement rides and shopping centers. There is quite a bit of traffic on the main road, especially motorcycles and RVs. The ambiance of the area is somewhat degraded by this.

In the summer, one can enjoying tubing on the river across the street, horseback riding a short walk up the 8-mile walking/bike path that runs north-south thru Townsend, or driving to Cades Cove (9 miles into the park) for hiking, wildlife and people watching, or to bicycle around the 11 mile loop. For those who enjoy the attractions in Pigeon Forge, Wears Valley Road will take you there from Townsend in about 20 minutes by car.

We congratulate David, the new owner, and his family for giving new life to the inn and revamping it into a homey, spruced-up, clean, and comfy place to rest and relax! Thank you and best wishes for your future success. When we return to visit family in Knoxville, we will certainly book lodging with you again.

These rooms are large with nice hardwood floors and new furniture. They've been recently remodeled and not at all what you might expect from a motel of this era. The view from the large picture window is not bad either or you can enjoy it from the wooden rocking chairs outside the room. The only down side is that there in no continental breakfast, but they do bring a basket of of prepackaged pastries and snacks along with coffee. We would return here again.
