“Very accommodating and a great spot to stay!”
Reviewed 17 March 2011

My sister and I, along with our spouses, surprised our parents with a 3-night stay in the Hide Out cabin for our dad's birthday. Our parents visit Townsend once a month or so and always wondered what it would be like to stay in a cabin. They truly enjoyed this experience and would love to go back! We are so glad we chose Pioneer Cabins & Guest Farm for them. This is a beautiful and peaceful spot in Townsend - very close to the National Park but far enough from the chaos on the parkways in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. A big plus is they have very reasonable rates and no crazy reservation fee, cleaning fee, etc. Diane and Roger were extraordinary hosts and met every need from beginning to end. My parents felt like they have known them for years. They answered all emails promptly, sent along pictures to help us choose a cabin, and even personalized a birthday card for our dad along with the surprise gift certificate. They go out of their way to make everybody happy (as all cabin rental companies should). The Hide Out cabin has great mountain and prairie views from the front porch, is very cozy and immaculately clean inside, and is close to the adorable petting farm and organic gardens. If you are very much into "going green," this is the place to stay. My mother raved about the shower soap/shampoo that Diane and Roger make themselves. They were so kind to give her a bunch to take home! We couldn't be happier with this experience. I am sure my parents will be back, and the rest of us will stay here next time we visit Townsend!

We just completed our second anniversary vacation to The Pioneer Cabins in Townsend, Tennessee. Again, the cabin was completely furnished, very clean, and the Owners, Diane & Roger were wonderful in their attention to detail and interest in providing first class service while ensuring their guest's privacy. Pioneer Cabins also has farm animals, a petting zoo, and Diane is constantly working on her organic gardens, from which she provides fresh organic vegetables for her guests daily.
We spent the week sleeping in, hiking, biking, golfing, and just sitting on the front porch of our cabin looking out over the beautiful mountain valley.
My wife and I travel often, but the Pioneer Cabins is the one place we go back to every year. I highly recommend Pioneer Cabins for couples or families looking for an option to the neon overload of Gatlinburg.
For golfers, one of the best kept secrets is Lambert Acres Golf Course located between Maryville and Townsend, TN. Lambert Acres has 27 holes of golf in a mountain setting that is second to none. The course is is fantastic condition and the walking twilight rate is $10 or $ 20 with a cart. As a golf teaching professional, I can tell you there are no better golfing values to be found in this area.

Set in a wonderful location right in the Appalachian mountains - this was a romantic getaway after having visited New York, Nashville and Cookeville. We were staying at The Roosters Perch and Diane, the owner couldn't have been nicer. She explained how everything worked upon arrival and we just loved the cabin!!!Very comfortable with great views night and day, of the mountains. The hot tub and bbq was the cherry on top!
The king size bed was really comfortable, with a fan above if it got really hot. The air con. was great and we needed it as the weather was glorious.
When we were leaving I couldn't find my sunglasses and just left, thinking I had probably packed them, but 20mins later Diane tooted us down on the highway found them in the car park!! great service. Thanks Diane! We will be back!

We stayed 3 nights at the Pioneer Cabins. We were in the Bunkhouse and our son and his bride were in Trails End.

The bunkhouse was spacious. There were three twin beds (in the living room) for children. Our bedroom was private with a door that closed, so that if we had children along we would have had privacy. King size bed was comfortable with lots of extra pillows and extra blankets. Two bathrooms in the Bunkhouse was very nice to have, even though there were just two of us staying.
Diane, the owner/host was VERY nice. She made us feel welcome, and was kind enough to give us a quick guided tour of our cabin upon arrival, showing us where various items in the cabin were located.

She was always available, but never intrusive.Once when we locked ourselves out of the cabin and had to call her, she cheerfully showed up with a key (within minutes of our call)-she was smiling and nice even though we surely inconvenienced her with locking ourselves out.

I loved the fact that they had a computer area/games/DVD's/ washer&dryer on site and open and available 24 hours a day.

They have a garden and put various vegetables from their garden in a basket in the computer area for any of the guests that would like to have them. That was nice when we wanted some veggies to go with our steaks on the grill.

There is also a petting area with goats, sheep, etc. Great for kids but also for adults.
Jacuzzi/hot tub on back deck was REALLY nice, especially after the long drive to the cabins (we drove from Illinois).

Our son got married at the cabins on another property NEXT DOOR to this property and that also was very nice as far as the wedding went. So if you are planning a wedding, the place next door to Pioneer cabins has a beautiful area for weddings especially for those who are into horses. You can find the link to this wedding area on the Pioneer Cabins website.

The only drawbacks I saw were that the cabins did not have central air, but instead, had window AC units. Also no ceiling fans in the bedroom which would most likely not be a big deal to anyone else, but we just are used to the fan running at night.

The cabin itself was very clean, nicely decorated with a "cowboy" or western theme.

I think if you are looking for a relaxing romantic get-away, any of the cabins at Pioneer Cabins would fit the bill. Also if you are a family with children the Bunkhouse Cabin we stayed at would be perfect-the petting area is just a few feet away, through a little trail in the woods. They offer horse riding for the kids every day, and I think this is free. Another advantage to the Bunkhouse is there are no stairs to climb, even getting up to the front door. It is a ramp. So it is good for elderly, or physically impaired folks too.

It is also a great place for a group of sisters/women to get together for a girls weekend.

We were looking for something quiet and out of the way near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We wanted a fun place to stay for a family of four.

Pioneer cabins definitely exceeded our expectations! The cabin was clean, tidy, and rustic in the woods, but with great views from the deck. The farm had a petting area and an organic garden to get vegetables from. The hosts were warm and welcoming. Roger even stayed up late to make sure we could get into our cabin without any problems. Diane spent some time telling us about the cabins and the area.

Our trips to Cades Cove, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge were all easy from this location!

We definitely plan to go back as soon as we can!

  • Liked — The cabins were wonderful and the area was peaceful, quiet, and beautiful. The dogs living on the farm adopted us and would visit us on the deck or near the grill.
  • Disliked — No phones or internet from the cabins, although our cell phones worked and you could get wireless Internet from the main office desk.

Terrific accomodations, a peaceful environment, and outstanding proprietors add up to a memorable visit to the Smokies. Our cabin was spacious, clean, and afforded us a delightful view of the serene countryside. We spent lots of time looking up at the stars from the comfortable hot tub, and enjoyed the quiet at night for sleep profound.

My highest recommendations for Pioneer Cabins--you will not be disappointed!

We had a 3 night stay in the Trails End cabin. Had stayed in the same cabin 15 years ago for our 1st Anniversary. Just as peaceful and private as it was back then with the added bonus of a hot tub.
The kitchen has everything you might need for cooking a meal. Two decks. Rocking chairs in front, table and grill on back deck.
Lots of nice big towels. Very comfortable queen bed upstairs.
Great views. Quiet and peaceful.
Loved our stay!
