My wife and I stayed at the Pin Oak Lodge lakeside villas (not the lodge rooms) at Natchez Trace State Park in Wildersville, TN from September 23 through 25, 2013. The staff at check-in were very nice and initially assigned us to villa #3. When we arrived we were appalled at the condition of the entrance which was unswept, covered in cobwebs and had several unserviceable deck chairs stacked to the side. Also, the trash can outside the unit was overflowing with trash. We reluctantly entered the unit to find one curtain hanging off the curtain rods and an old television with no remote in the living room. There was no wi-fi service and no washer/dryer. The back deck offered a partial view of the lake but the deck chairs were moldy and several had straps hanging loose from the seats and backs. The gas grill on the deck was dirty and did not light. Also, the grill grate was completely rusted in half and had collapsed onto the burners. We returned to the check-in desk at the Pin Oak Lodge and reported what we had found at villa #3 and were given our choice of the remaining vacant lakeside villas.

We chose villa #7 which offered a much better view of the lake and had a newer flat screen television with a working remote. Still no wi-fi or washer/dryer. The porch and back deck were a bit cleaner, but still required us to sweep and clean. The deck chairs were moldy and needed pressure washing. The gas grill on the deck did light, but the grate was rusted through and the paint on the inside of the grill lid was peeling and dropping onto the grill. We noticed a maintenance worker outside and showed him the grill and he was nice enough to bring us a replacement grill right way. The area below the deck was littered with cigarette butts and trash, but we decided to pick up this trash ourselves since we just wanted to unpack and settle in from a long drive rather than complain again.

Another serious problem with this unit was that the door to the downstairs bathroom shower and toilet had a faulty latch which, when the door was closed behind you, failed to unlatch the door. Both my wife and I found ourselves locked inside the shower room until one or the other of us happened by to unlatch the door. Also, the front porch light flickered intermittently so we decided to leave it turned off. Finally, the living room furniture was very uncomfortable.

Since we did not have a washer/dryer in our villa we used the one at Pin Oak Lodge. The pay washer worked but the pay dryer did not dry our clothes after running it for a full cycle.

This area of Natchez Trace State Park is lovely, but the lakeside villas need some serious attention to detail. Little things like no television remote in the downstairs bedroom and no channel lists reflect how much guests can expect when visiting.

Room Tip: The lakeside villas with the higher numbers offer the best views of the lake. Villas #7, #8 and #9 offer excellent views from the back deck.

I have stayed many places but never in a TN state park lodge and TN you are no Kentucky!

Everything felt dirty...and a white glove test would have proven that! The shower curtain had a huge hole in it, the lamps were old and dirty, the carpets were the filthiest I have seen in a restaurant and meeting room. Please get me a bucket of hot soapy water and a vacuum cleaner!

The view of the lake and pool were nice but not when you feel like nothing is clean.

My dad used to say that you could tell a lot about a restaurant by the cleanliness of the windows. If the windows were clean then you could pretty much figure the management was paying attention to details.

We were stuck here for a family reunion...we won't be back.

Rooms have either a lake view or a pool view. We stayed in a 3BR suite. It was at the end of the 2nd floor with two different water views plus a view of the playground and pool. We took a pontoon boat tour of the lake with a Park Ranger as our guide. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Lodge restaurant serves buffet style meals as well as various specials and menu items. The swimming pool was great as was the lake area off the Inn.

Me & my husband wanted to stay in a place close to my family. We picked Pin Oak Lodge and stayed in villa no.9. We were only 3 miles from my sisters house. This was Christmas week 2012.
What a mess we were in for. Shortly upon checking in I turned on the kitchen light and the roaches were running on the kitchen counter
This day & time this is uncalled for. I will never stay or eat in their restaurant again!
This is very poor management & housekeeping if me& my husband saw the roaches why haven't they?
My next visit to Tennessee I'll stay in Jackson & drive back & forth to visit my family in Lexington thank you!
