Bar M Guest Ranch, LLC
Reviewed 21 September 2013

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Bar-M Ranch and took a 3 hour trail ride. The accommodation is excellent - spotless, well-equipped, very comfortable and great value for money. We loved the peace and quiet and watching the wildlife - white-tail deer and black buck antelope. The area is famous for exotic species and we saw bison and wildebeest on our travels too!
Trisha and Mike are wonderful hosts in that they leave you completely alone to enjoy the ranch, while providing clear safety guidelines for both guests and permanent residents (wildlife and horses)!
As a horsewoman with many years experience (including many visits to other dude ranches and trail riding establishments) I have to give Trisha and Mike 11 out of 10 for the way they keep, manage and train their horses. They treat them with loving respect, unlike many places that use their horses like machines with minimum care and rough treatment. They also give an excellent pre-ride briefing on how to interact with the horses which is the best I've seen - a far cry from the "kick to make them go and pull on the reins to make them stop" instruction (typical of many other horse hire places) - with a focus on communication and leadership that the horse can understand and respond to.
The trail ride itself was a wonderful ride up into the hills with some excellent views. We saw more wildlife on the ride and Trisha explained about the native american sites and artefacts we saw along the way.
The ranch is close to Bandera, which was a little disappointing - more like the drugstore cowboy capital than a real cowboy town - but very friendly.
To sum up, a lovely stay with lovely people, great horses and lots of peace and quiet.

My boyfriend and I just visited the Bar-M ranch and had a really great time. The bunkhouse is the perfect size and set up and very clean. We live in the city so we really enjoyed hanging out by the campfire and being in a country setting the night before the ride. I had not ridden in over 10 years, and Trisha was very informative and patient giving us a review of how to ride. The horses were very responsive and well-trained, which made us both feel very comfortable. It was a beautiful scenic ride in the hill country where we saw turkeys, deer, and a bunch of other wildlife. We both had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the Bar M Ranch!

My husband and I spent two nights in early April in the bunkhouse at Bar M and took a 3 hour trail ride. Bar M is only a few minutes from the town of Bandera, which is really handy for eating out or getting groceries, especially carrots for treats for the horses. Trisha is wonderful and has really well-trained horses. Whether you are an experienced rider or a novice, you will be in safe hands with a woman who knows everything about horses and who also cares about her guests. This is a 'get away from it all' location and you will have a great ride in beautiful countryside. We wish we were there now.

For a great trail ride on a beautiful ranch, and a nice, reasonably priced place to stay in the scenic Texas Hillcountry the Bar M in Bandera,Texas is the place to go. The owner ,Trisha, can teach a first time beginner to ride one of her gentle well trained horses and experienced riders will also enjoy the responsive mounts as well as the scenery on the ranch's trail ride. The Bar M is very close to the quaint town of Bandera where the shops, live music and activities make it a fun place to visit for all ages. The Western Heritage Museum is also definitely worth a visit. I look forward to going back.

My adult son was visiting from London for the Christmas holidays and wanted a taste of Texas. I am so glad that I chose Bar M. The ranch is in a quiet spot just off the road to the nearby state park and the bunkhouse where we stayed was very private. The weather was cold during our stay but the accommodation was cosy & all 3 of us enjoyed watching Trish's cowboy videos in the evenings with Francis the cat curled up beside us. The bunkhouse has everything you need including a washer & dryer and don't be put off by the futons - they make very comfortable beds. We were all novice riders but Trish is an excellent teacher and was so attentive that we felt very safe and relaxed and enjoyed our rides enormously. We had a private ride for just the 3 of us which made it extra special. If you stay here you must go on a trail ride. With very reasonable priced accommodation, wonderful scenery and the best hosts, why would you stay anywhere else in Hill Country? The nearby town on Bandera is worth a visit and if you want to eat, has some decent, friendly & reasonably priced restaurants. To stretch your legs after a ride, try a hike in the state park - great views.

My 13 year old niece and I went for a two hour trail ride. I live near by so we went for the day. We had a blast! We are both experienced rider. She said it was one of the best time's she's ever had on horse back. The horses are lovely and super fun. I love how Trish is so attentive and she will keep you safe no matter what. We will do this again. And I will have certainly recommended Bar M to others.

We stayed at Bar M Ranch in October for 3 nights and had a fabulous time.

The bunk house provides spacious, immaculately clean and well appointed accommodation in a lovely quiet spot. The kitchen and bathroom provide all you will need and the availability of a washing machine and dryer is very convenient.

The town of Bandera is an easy 10 minute drive away; offering a good choice of bars, restaurants, etc.

We took 2 horse rides at Bar M which were a real life experience. Never having ridden a horse before, it was a bit daunting, but the instruction/familiarisation beforehand made it all feel very safe indeed. If you stay at Bar M, you must go on a ride, it is well worth it.

Trish is an excellent host (always on hand if you need anything) and her knowledge and experience of horses is incredible.

Bar M offers high quality accommodation with the experience of a personal (unlike dude ranching) ride at a very reasonable cost. Highly recommended!!!!
