“Classic Cafe for Nostalgia buffs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2014

The OST Restaurant is a classic Texas cafe that nostalgia buffs will appreciate. No pretentiousness here--it's clean but no fancy furniture--unless you count the saddle bar stools as fancy. Good Texas style food--think chicken fried steak for breakfast and Tex-Mex entrees. Sorry foodies, you won't find "Fusion Cuisine" (whatever that is) and Mexican Street food. (You want that kind of stuff go to the Pearl Brewery area in the big city of San Antonio.
Staff does a good job of coping with hectic Saturday mealtimes as this is not the sleepy town of my youth!

“Lost order.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

We waited forever for meal and finally asked about it and found it the order was lost. We did get the food at no cost so maybe it was worth it. The John Wayne memorabilia kept us occupied and all the Western posters and artifacts. Fabulous chicken fried steak and hamburger.

“John Wayne's restaurant of choice in Bandera!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

Where else would you eat in the Cowboy Capital of the world? Of course, where John Wayne ate! Definitely good food, good portions and friendly service. Don't expect 5-star dining, but its a fun experience. Sit at the bar on the saddles for the ultimate cowboy experience.

“Wow! You gotta go!”

Order the cheap and huge tacos! $1.50 per giant taco. Also breakfast anytime. Yes, it's kitschy but that's the charming part. Service excellent plus the menagerie of locals is entertainment enough .

“Yummy Homecooking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

Wd love eating at down-home local restaurants and this fit the bill for a great one. We had breakfast there two mornings and the pancakes were absolutely delicious! The supper we tried was one of the best hamburgers we've had, probably no small surprise since I'm sure their grill is well-seasoned after being open so many years. We hear that this is one of George Strait's favorite places to eat, but evidently he wasn't in town last weekend. :O(
