“Always delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2012

This cafe is a long-time family favorite. The fried shrimp is great. The chicken-fried steak is outstanding. The homemade blue-cheese dressing is wonderful. Homemade biscuits and honey with every meal. My father's favorite was always the chicken gumbo soup. The huge collection of plates on the wall is a trademark here. I usually get a child's plate (or not-so-hungry plate) of either fried popcorn shrimp or catfish filets. Yum!

“Atmosphere and service shine, wish the food were as good.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2012

We have visited Po-Po periodically for 14 years. It used to be THE place where you would take out-of-town guests because it was so cool - all the plates, and ivy growing though the wall - and the good home-style cooking - fried chicken especially. While the atmosphere and good service remain, the taste and quality of the food has declined in our experiences. Po-Po's continues to be incredibly busy especially for lunch. But after our last visit, unfortunately there is no reason for us to return. An order of chicken livers was ok, but those at Chicken Express are better. Gizzards were completely inedible - hard - tough with a strange chemical taste - we threw them away - a waste of $9. And their specialty fried chicken - just not what it used to be and small pieces. So disappointing for a place we have enjoyed for years and for items that have been staples at PoPo. Maybe it was the change in ownership a few years ago, but something has changed over the years. It is still a really neat place and please do not be discouraged to go. Just know that all meals may not be as good as they should. Hopefully your experience will be better than ours.

“Real Southern Cookin Food just off the interstate”

When you walk in you will definitely see that European Country feeling . There must be a thousand types of different plates Hung up on the wall. The food was pretty good. The service was outstanding . We met the owner she was at least in her mid 80's. I would try it again. This is a place you should try at least once.

“Simply delicious country cooking!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 December 2011

We drove by Po Po's while on our way to another restaurant and doubled back when we found the other restaurant was closed. What a pleasant surprise that we happened across this quaint country restaurant nestled in rural Boerne, TX which bills itself as "A Texas tradition since 1929". We had potato skins for an appetizer which were quite delicious. My main course was the prime rib sandwich with onion rings and my wife had the country fried chicken with mashed potatoes and the soup of the day. We couldn't stop gushing about how great everything tasted. We each had shakes to drink and I took some cobbler home for dessert. I live in Austin so I'm not in the Boerne area very often, but when I am I know I'll make Po Po's a must-stop!
