“Great place to stay!”
Reviewed 26 June 2011

My wife, son and I stayed here for three nights the first week in June and it was absolutely fabulous. As soon as you get there you are greeted and welcomed in to this beautiful Inn. You are informed about everything from how dinning works the safety tips of the pool area to any questions about tours they offer. First off this place is at an elevation of 2000 feet and out in the middle of pretty much nowhere so there isn't any air conditioning in the rooms nor is there any kind of TV just the silence of the country, very peaceful and yes comfortable even without air condition. Secondly the food and service during dinning is great they had our table set up for us before we arrived and that is where we sat our entire stay. Some of the best service I have ever experienced. Thirdly they offer pretty much any tour who would want, and the tour guides they have or the one we had was very informational, extremely nice and patient considering our son is only 20 months. His name is Ric, he answered any question you had for him. Last of all the just the friendliness of all the staff making sure you were safe and enjoying yourself was the best I had ever experienced. We would diffidently go back.

S & L Travel arranged for our stay at Hidden Valley Inn so we could explore the Cayo district and visit Caracol ruins. We were suprised when we learned that we were the only guests at this Inn during our three day stay. We had the entire 7,200 acre private mountain jungle reserve and Inn to ourselves! We visited 4 waterfalls on the property without any other tourists in the area. They were absolutely beautiful! The staff at the Inn were very friendly and accomodating. They catered to our every need. They upgraded our cabana so that we could enjoy an outside waterfall garden shower and a screened-in sitting room. Outstanding! We had a four course meal each night and enjoyed the beautiful pool and hot tub, with our own bartender. The staff arranged for an exceptional tour guide (Fredy) who took us to the Caracol ruins. He was very knowledgeable about birds, plants and Mayan history and made our trip a memorable one. Expecially since we were fortunate to see a pair of Scarlet Macaws and Emerald Toucanettes on the way to the ruins. We would have missed seeing them if he hadn't pointed them out.

We highly recommend this Inn to anyone who is adventurous enough to tackle the road to get there. It is pretty rough, but the trip is very much worth the effort. We hope to go back again sometine.

Hidden Valley was nice but the staff were awkwardly too nice. Too nice in the sense that if you asked a question they wouldn't necessarily give you a straight answer, they'd tell you what they thought you wanted to hear.

The food was good but very pricey. Fires in the region have damaged some of the forest on the Hidden Valley property. We did enjoy hikes around the property - nice pools! The lack of a good map of the property made me think that they are trying to capitalize on the offer to pick you up whenever you get tired from hiking (at $10 per person). It's easy to pick a route that is too long. We're good hikers so we made it back OK but what they told us would take 5-6 hours took more like 9 (as we stopped and swam a bunch).

We selected Hidden Valley because we are birdwatchers and they seemed to be the most "bird-friendly" resort. They did have birders on staff. However, our guide at Hidden Valley wasn't nearly as good of a birder as Phillip Mai who we met at DuPlooy's. You can hire Phillip to pick you up anywhere in Cayo and take you birding for a reasonable fee. Contact him at birdmanbz.mai@gmail.com.

If I were to come back to this region, and I would if I return to Belize, I would save $$, stay at a different lodge and hire Phillip.

My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at hidden valley. We took javiers flying service to get to the hotel which is definitely worth the extra money. It saves on time and you get beautiful views of the jungle. Once we got to hidden valley we were warmly greeted by elmur the hotel manager and delicious fruit punch! The hotel is amazing. You are in your own private cabana and the main lobby, pool, hot tubs and trails are just a short walk away.
The first day we decided to go on a hidden valley tour w Freddy. He was the best guide ever. He stopped to point out the different birds and lizards. He also took us to five differ waterfalls which were all amazing. He saved the best one for last which was butterfly falls where we went swimming right under it! It was the best experience ever.
After that we rented out secret pools for the rest of the day. The hotel had prepared a nice lunch for us and we were able to spend our day laying in a hammock and swimming in the crystal clear water of the waterfall. It was so romantic.
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. The staff elmur, Freddy, Bruce and pamela were always smiling and ready to help with anything we asked for. Our room and the grounds of the hotel were always clean. I do recommend bringing bug spray because the black flushing are bad but we didn't let that stop us.
If u are looking for a romantic beautiful jungle setting this is the place to stay. I cannot wait for my next trip to this hotel!!

Let me begin by thanking the staff of Hidden Valley for creating an experience my husband and I will never forget. Upon arrival, we were met with nothing but smiles. Being welcomed into the lodge, we felt as if we were invited into a friend's home, told to make ourselves completely comfortable. If you are looking for a place to just relax and enjoy the beauty of nature, this is the place for you. The food is amazing, the hikes to gorgeous waterfalls are plentiful and the ability to plan a tour at the last minute without lifting a finger was a definite plus.
Throughout our stay, everything felt personalized. Being our honeymoon, the staff even left us a sweet little note over our fireplace congratulating us on our marriage. One of our last nights we had the chance to sit in the bar and chat with the managers, Flavien and Beverley, such wonderful people.
In the evening, relaxing in the lodge from the days events, we enjoyed freshly baked treats each evening with their own coffee, grown right on the property. Most evenings we were able to eat on the patio, candlelight on the table, enjoying the lightning storms far out on the horizon. Our walk back to our room always took us forever because we couldn't prevent ourselves from stopping to look up at the stars. The inn limits lighting on the premises, and for good reason. I have never seen so many stars in my life!!
With regrets, we had to leave and come back to the "real world." After nine nights, we still have a list of activities we must return to complete. The tour guides the inn contracts are top notch. We particularly recommend two guides: Fredy who took us to Caracol and Ben who took us to ATM and river canoeing . Both were so knowledgeable and attentive. At Caracol, Fredy hiked the entire site with us, answering all our questions while giving us a complete history lesson, while we saw other guides just letting their guests wander. Ben was all about safety first and made our trip into ATM an indescribable experience my husband and I will never forget. Both guides showed a true respect and love for the culture and its history.
Oh, and once again, let me mention the food. To die for. The absolute must try, the french toast with fried plantains at breakfast. Each night we had a four course meal with a vegetarian choice always available. So great I bought their recipe book!
Thanks again to everyone at Hidden Valley who made our experience one we will always treasure!

We stayed at Hidden Valley Inn from March 4th 2011 - March 8th 2011. The staff was remarkable. Elmer at the front desk is a true professional. After the long 3+hour drive from the airport, he greeted us by opening the front door for us and quickly offering a warm towel and fruit punch. He was just so friendly and helpful the whole time! Rick our tour guide to Caracol was so much fun to talk to and was so knowledgeable.
Beverly and Flavian, the managers, were so much fun to talk to.

The food was excellent - every meal was different and the variety was truly exceptional.

We didn't have to think about anything the whole time we were there. The only drawback is that we didn't stay longer to enjoy all of the wonderful hiking and waterfalls. It was expensive to stay and eat there for so many days since there are no close restaurants or grocery stores. However, it is vacation and it is worth the money not to think about preparing meals.

The sky was so dark that you could see so many star constellations that we have never seen before in the US. It was truly a special place to be. We would definitely trade our time in Placencia to just enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of Hidden Valley Inn. We cannot wait until we can go back to this hidden gem of a resort!

Hidden Valley Inn is a pretty unique lodge. There are numerous waterfalls that you'll only be able to see if you stay there. Simply put, it's worth at least one night's stay to view these incredible waterfalls. Butterfly Falls itself is worth the visit. It's a special place. We were also able to visit the private waterfalls, as they were not rented out that day. We didn't have time to visit the other waterfalls, so it might be worth spending two nights to see everything.

The food was the tremendous - the best we had on our entire trip. The staff was beyond helpful. For one, they arranged a private sunrise yoga session in the jungle, which was amazing. More importantly, they towed our car out of a muddy ditch on a hill about 8 miles from the inn. We thought we'd be walking back, but we used our hotel-provided radios to get help. They sent two hotel staffers immediately, who pulled our car out of the ditch and escorted us back.

The rooms were beautiful and included a fireplace. They also provided plenty of wood and accessories to get the fire started.

Overall, great stay. We recommend packaging it with a few nights at nearby Five Sisters Lodge.
