“Perfect Weekend Getaway”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

The Ant Street Inn is nestled in Brenham's downtown....a beautifully restored and appointed boutique hotel with the feel of a B&B....without having to share your pancake syrup with strangers. The rooms are huge. There are lots of sitting areas, including a really nice second story outdoor porch that's heavily shaded against the August heat, as well as some areas on the grounds behind this historic site. Breakfast was at the contiguous cafe (meaning proximity, not the name of the cafe), and the omelettes were excellent...and includes in the room cost.

Our hosts, the relatively new owners, were very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Check out their website....good photos and descriptions.

Thank you very much for your comments! Yes, the shared balcony always seems to have a comfortable breeze regardless of how hot the day may be... a comfortable place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening or a cup of coffee in the morning. Many of our guests sit on the balcony or in the grand hall after they've checked out of their room, reading an article from a favorite magazine or finishing a book before heading home. The Brenham Grill, the award-winning restaurant located in our hotel just off the lobby does make some of the best omelettes, and the absolute best bacon you've ever had! We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

Beautifully restored historical building in the Heart of Brenham. Included a fantastic hot breakfast from the accompanying restaurant. The wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and found this inn to be very romantic.

We're so glad you enjoyed your anniversary with us! As you might imagine, we have many couples celebrate their anniversaries with us. Our inn provides the opportunities to be as secluded as you'd like to be, and serving breakfast in our restaurant means you don't have to dine with strangers if you don't want to... you can eat at a table for two is you wish. I do need to clarify one aspect of the Ant Street Inn: Yes, the building itself is a historic structure. However, the building was not always an inn. While the inn was modeled on the late 19th century, and furnished with late 19th century furnishings, and decorated with late 19th century paintings, Oriental rugs and other decor, it was not renovated until the early-mid 1990s. Therefore, the Ant Street Inn is not a "historic inn". We look forward to welcoming you back soon! You don't have to wait until your next anniversary! With the Unity Theatre, the County Fair, the Texas Brew-Step (a craft beer festival on October 18), the many fall festivals, the historic home tours, the Christmas Stroll with the lighted parade (and the Jingle Bell Market in the Ballroom of the Ant Street Inn!), and of course, the Ant Street Inn's New Year's Eve Bash, there are MANY reasons to return to Brenham, even before the end of the year!

Had a great stay, wine and cheese in the evening, robes, very large rooms, complimentary soda and Blue Bell ice-cream, breakfast in morning, very nice B&B, was able to walk to dinner and right on Brenham square. Will be back.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us! Thank you for your comments! Being situated in historic downtown Brenham one block from the square, you're within easy walking distance of many great shops, boutiques, galleries and restaurants. We're glad you enjoyed our Guest Social, the tray of cheese, snacks and wine we provide to our guests on weekends to get them through to the time the restaurants open. We provide our Guest Social weekend nights when there's nothing else going on at the inn (like a wedding), and nothing going on in downtown (like a concert or festival). We're also glad you enjoyed our complimentary refreshments of coffee, tea, soda, water and Blue Bell ice cream that's available 24 hours a day (until it runs out, that is!). We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

We stayed at Ant Street Inn for a sister getaway and absolutely loved. The inn is large and spacious, well-decorated and maintained, and in the perfect position in downtown Brenham to restaurants and shopping. The Inn Keeper, Pat, made us feel incredibly welcomed and was super friendly both at check-in and check-out! He also did not make fun of us for having a Frozen singalong on the balcony, despite being a front row witness. Breakfast at the Brenham Grille, included with a stay, had a huge breakfast menu and the Migas were fantastic! Plus a community room with lots of coffee, wine accoutrement, water, and easy access to anything you could need.

The rooms were so incredibly comfortable. Individual ACs ensure you can keep your room at the temperature you want, are well-decorated and clean, and the sheets are beyond anything you've ever experienced! We had the most comfortable sleep in a long, long time after the perfect night on the second story balcony enjoying the well-placed rockers above a lovely fountain and offstreet view.

I cannot say enough about this place!

Room Tip: We were in the St. Louis, wihich was a corner and right by the balcony. It is a community balcony...

We're so glad you and your sister enjoyed your stay! We have quite a few guests who come in for a Ladies' Night Out or Ladies' Weekend Out. The St. Louis is a favorite among many of our guests for all the reasons you cited: It's comfortable size, furnishings and decorations, as well as it's location at the corner of the building overlooking the balcony, gardens and the field of wildflowers behind the building. Pat is a great friend of ours who agreed to oversee the Inn while Suzy and I were out of town at our daughter's wedding. He was obviously the right man for the job! Thank you for your kind words, and thanks Pat for taking such great care of our guests! We hope to welcome you back soon!

I have been coming here since 1997 and I love everything about it. The beautiful antique-filled spacious rooms, the luxurious sheets and towels, the nice breakfasts, the balcony...It looked to me if some refreshing has been done since last year too. The walls of our room were beautifully painted. One misstep: The inn has a wine and cheese social hour on Fridays and Saturdays, and free cups of Blue Bell ice cream are also always available, a very nice touch. During this visit, however, the cheese was gone after 20 minutes and no one checked or replenished it. Also, there were only about 8 cups of ice cream in the fridge and there were definitely more than 8 guests staying at the time. Nevertheless, it's a wonderful hotel and I look forward to my next visit.

Thank you for your kind words. Our Guest Social, like our ice cream, is just a little “extra” we provide to our guests. We put together a pretty standard platter of meats, cheeses and crackers each time. Sometimes more of these items are left at the end of the day than are enjoyed, and sometimes they go quickly, with nothing left but a few crumbs. It sounds like the guests visiting the particular weekend you visited were very social during your stay! It must have been a hot day as well – ice cream can go quickly after check-in at 3 o’clock. Thank you for not allowing this misstep to overshadow the rest of your stay.

We like to frequent as many family owned non-chain establishments as we can. Boy have we found a jewel of a place to relax in. From the get go the owners and their help did a A-1 job. You will not find a better Inn to hang your hat in the Brenham area. Suzy and Keith both went above and beyond to answer any and all questions we had. Even took the time to tell about the history of the building. Keith had no problem letting us tour other rooms for future visits. Each room is different, they are all tastefully decked out with antique beds and furnishings. If you like quality and good service with a smile look no further. There is even a restaurant on premises for the free breakfast and any additional meals if needed. Breakfast was good as well as the service. Our room THE MEMPHIS was just what the doctor ordered! Nice comfortable antique bed, freeze you out air conditioning and a killer bathroom. It featured a extra large tub and walk in closet size shower. A huge rear porch that you can hang out on and enjoy the nightly breeze. Free refreshments such as sodas, coffee, water and those magical Blue Bell single serve cups. DVDs,books, magazines, games they have thought of absolutely everything. Two big thumbs up for The Ant Street Inn. They really deserve six big stars(circles),but do not take my word for it try it yourself and you will be singing their praises also. Thank you Suzy and Keith for a wonderful stay.

Thank you so much! We're glad we could help you enjoy your weekend! The Memphis Room is probably the most talked about room of all Ant Street Inn guest quarters. The Memphis Room has a unique architectural piece permanently installed: the original elevator from the days that the building was the Schmid Brothers' Mercantile! It is not operable anymore. It's boarded up from the bottom, and very safe. But I have to admit this room is either a "Love it" or "Hate it" experience... There is no middle ground! The bathroom is fantastic... You have to do some exploring to find all of it! We're glad you enjoyed it, and look forward to welcoming you back soon!

Thank you very much for your kind comments. We try very hard at the Ant Street Inn to ensure the comfort of our guests. That's why we installed a new 55 ton chiller to help our guests stay cool and comfortable on these hot summer days. We now have a full 100 tons of chilling capacity to cool our 21,000 square feet of space! Come by, cool off, and enjoy historic downtown Brenham!
