When I was a kid, my family went to Brownwood for a week every year as a vacation. Now that my kids are about the age I was when we first started going, I decided to make it up for our own week vacation. I was surpised to find the park was pretty empty, but we did come on a Sunday. Yes, the lake level is a little low, but we still managed to get alot of swimming in. My parents came up and stayed in the cabin, and with their boat, so we got to enjoy the ride on the lake. Our campsite had plenty of shade and was near the bathroom. There are a few trails to walk on, but you do have to watch for poison ivy in places.( it's everywhere this time of year) We enjoyed walking the roads as well, visiting the different buildings built by the CCC. Although the park remained empty the whole week, it left us to enjoy the peace and quiet of the lake. In the old days, this park was very full, and I was left wondering why it wasn't. It is still very well maintained and enjoyable. If you are looking for a park to swim, boat, and enjoy the views, this is a great place to camp!!! I hope to see more people the next time we go!!!
