Star of Texas Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 2 Brownwood B&B and Inns

My husband and I stayed in the Oak Cottage for two nights in celebration of our second wedding anniversary. We didn't want to leave! Don, the owner, is a blacksmith and his beautiful work was evident all over the cabin. The headboard, napkin rings, and towel hooks (all with oak leaf motifs) were made by him, as well as the gate latches and too many other details to mention. We bought one of the beutiful wire crosses from the gift shop his wife Debbie made. Breakfast was amazing. We took a daily walk through the wildscape with Biscuit the llama and at night we built a fire in the little burn barrel in front of the cottage. We sat on the porch of the cottage every night, drinking wine and listening to the Chuck-will's-widow and wild turkeys. There's even a turkey call on the porch so you can strike up a dialog! We were visted by the owners' friendly cats and, on our first night, an armadillo came rustling out of the woods. We ate at The Turtle in Brownsville, which has amazing food. Can't wait for an excuse to return.

If you are looking for a real get away from the daily stress of life in general, the Star of Texas B&B awaits you. If you want to find that romance that has been MIA, the Star of Texas B&B awaits you. On the other hand, if you cannot live without television, have to be able to get online to check those stock quotes or may be concerned about getting a mosquito bite, you will probably want to look elsewhere.
The Star of Texas is without a doubt one of the best Bed and Breakfast experiences my wife and I have enjoyed. It is definitely a secluded location that offers peace and quiet and is perfect for the couple that is seeking a romantic yet somewhat adventurous hideaway. There is a nature path, (this is a certified wildscape), and you may even be followed by Biscuit the llama. There is also a tipi should you want something a little more out of the ordinary for lodging. We stayed in the Oak Cottage and we were very pleased. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, the overall decor, rustic. There is a CD player with some CDs available or you can bring your own, and if you have a laptop or portable DVD player, the external CD speakers will conveniently hook into either for watching a movie with better sound. There is a coffee maker, and a couple of games including a deck of cards which my wife regularly beat me at.
There is a Jacuzzi just a few feet from the Oak Cottage but the other cottages actually have them inside I believe. The owners, Don and Debbie Morelock are a very nice couple and Don is a Chaplin who performs weddings and vow renewals on site. We had our vows renewed for our 25th while we stayed here and it was very tastefully done with photos on CD, flowers, a small cake, etc. The Star of Texas is about a mile off of the main highway on Morelock Lane, there is currently no signage for the B&B on the main highway. Morelock Lane is a true single lane country road but it will take you to paradise, just take it slow. One of the things we will do when we go back is to bring a cooler with sandwich makings, snacks, water, etc. as you will want to spend as much time here as possible instead of traveling to town. This is the country so you may want to bring some mosquito repellent as well. I do recommend the Turtle restaurant in Brownwood as the food and service was outstanding. I cannot say enough about this experience and the couple that make it possible other than you owe it to yourself to give it a try, you will not be disappointed!
