On our way back to San Antonio after visiting Texas Tech in Lubbock with the family. So went a little out of the way. Place is what you expect in a middle of nowhere steakhouse. Wooden tables and chairs, western style decor. They are proud they installed a/c in 2013, what took so long? I know this place makes money by the prices they charge, and no a/c for so long? Previous customers deserved better. Quail leg appetizer needed a little more salt, jalapeno poppers were so mild my 12 yr old daughter loved them. Way to much cream cheese and no spicy bite at all. Green chili hominy was pretty good, didn't knock my socks off as so many others claimed it as "unbelievable". My $47 cowboy ribeye was cooked perfect. Now the spice they use on the steaks is very good, but on the salty side. Other than the saltiness my wifes filet and sons ribeye were also cooked perfect. Daughter had the burger and it was very big. Bread pudding was great, chocolate cake small and a let down. It was more like a tiny brownie, but at only $4.00 each, not a huge issue. We may return, only if my son picks Texas Tech over his other options, and we will have to visit for dinner. The prime rib is not available for lunch. Service from Danika was efficient and friendly. Very nice Texas wine selection

Drove 200 miles to see this place. Excellent prime rib. Blackened with pepper corns. Rib eye was a bit dry but I ordered it medium well. Don't do that. The bread puddling was worth the trip in its self.

Took a weekend road trip to Abilene & drove to Buffalo Gap for the steaks. The steaks were amazing. We had the peppered strip and the 22-oz cowboy ribeye. Steaks have a wonderful tasty rub - and were perfectly cooked. One of the Ranchhouse's signature sides is the Green Chile Hominy - it is fabulous ! If the best mac & cheese and the best posole got married and had a baby - this would be that baby ! Sourdough rolls with basil butter - amazing. The green beans were OK. And the bread pudding wasn't the best I ever had, but decent (I have bread pudding in Louisiana whenever I go). The ranch house is very rustic Texas, in a rural setting. Staff was very friendly, chatty, and efficient. The kitchen is tiny - it's amazing the food they pump out ! There is a lovely kitchen garden where they get their herbs, and probably tomatoes. The salad tomatoes tasted garden-grown. Yes, it is pricey, but worth it. Look for "Carl the Cardinal" and the resident kitties around the garden. Wear your cowboy hat and you'll fit right in! Been there, bought the cookbook !

Have been to Perini Ranch several times and the drive to Buffalo Gap is uniquely Texas with it's hills, mesquite trees and small country feel. Even when you turn into the ranch, the look of old Texas is something to see. The food - it's a steakhouse and can be over-rated at times. Our group of nine had varied dishes but the prime rib was the best dish served. Perfectly cooked, tender and full of flavors it was served with salad and a delicious squash side. No it is not the best in Texas but it is a good restaurant with a marvelous Texas feel.

Went here with work colleagues. What a great place. Location is awesome and the restaurant ground reminds me of The Salt Lick. Lots of history around the place. On to the food. I'm a steak snob, but Perini Ranch did not disappoint. Wonderful flavor and cooked just the way I ordered it...medium rare. Sides were great as well. Make sure you save room for dessert. The bread puddings is amazing as is the jalapeño jelly cheesecake. Give it try.
