We have just returned from a three day stay at this beautiful hotel.
The Manager, and all the staff couldn't have been more helpful, whether it was booking a treatment or getting recommendations on where to visit.
We were made to feel special the moment we arrived . The rooms are modern, clean and extremely comfortable. We were given a room with spectacular views that looked like a picture postcard.
The swimming pool area is lovely as are the grounds.
We can highly recommend this hotel but you must be someone that likes being off the beaten track, having a car helps although the hotel has transport that will take you anywhere you would like to go.
We would definitely go back.

Dear Liz,

Thank you so much for your kind feedback, we really appreciate to hear that you had a nice stay and that you were satisfied with our service as well as the hotel facilities.

Your are right that we are off the beaten track, but this is the reason why we can offer you a relaxing stay in 30 hectares of private park with various activities like Nordic Walking, biking, outdoor wellness trail and much more. We are only 19 km from Bologna downtown and attached to Castel San Pietro with a Golf Club or a shopping Outlet. It is surely easier to get around for those who travel by car but in alternative, we offer a hotel shuttle service on request.

In the hope of welcoming you again soon, we wish you a lovely rest of the day

This is a lovely new hotel. The rooms are nice, spacious enough (we have an infant with us) and clean. The restaurant staff are very friendly and accommodating with the baby.
That is where the good things end.
When we first arrived we asked about a shop, we were told it was a 10 minute drive away, as we hadn't rented a car they offered to drop us off and we could get a taxi back - great, not a problem. Until we try to get a taxi only to be informed by the locals that there are no taxis. We were stuck, with the baby for over half an hour before we managed to find someone who knew a taxi driver and was thankfully able to get him.
This is a hotel that does conferences and functions and that is their main priority. We went for dinner one evening, there was a function on at the gourmet restaurant so we went to the pool bar and low and behold there was a function on there as well. When we first arrived we were told the restaurant was fully booked and there was no room for us. Then, after expressing out displeasure, we were informed that of course there was a table for us - when everyone from the function left.
The next night we booked the gourmet restaurant at lunchtime for a table at 8.30. We got a phone call at 8 saying the gourmet restaurant was closed and we would have to go to the pool bar for a pizza. Disappointing. So we went to the pool bar only to be informed the pizza oven was not being used that night. I went to the reception to complain and as I was waiting the receptionist was telling a person who was checking in that he would have to eat in the pool bar and that he could have pizza - the right hand has basically no idea what the left hand is doing.
When we finally got to go to the gourmet restaurant as there were no functions on that night the food, wine and service were very good.
The menu at the pool bar is limited, we have lunch there and as you often can't get into the gourmet restaurant most days if you have to have dinner there as well it gets very boring very quickly.
The spa - it was raining so we thought we'd give it a go. We each had a massage (at different times) and who should be the therapist - the life guard from the pool!!! As he spends part of the day picking up sun beds etc he had hands like sandpaper. This is meant to be a spa hotel, fair enough if they weren't trying to push it as one but they are and you end up getting a rub down from the pool guy!
And the final issue happened today. We thought we'd go in to bologna for a look around. When we came back the door from the bedroom into the garden was open and the second key had been taken from the electricity unit. I went and complained to reception. An hour later I hadn't heard back from them so I went to see what was going on and the receptionist said that the maid had left the door open and taken the key. I just hope that he is right as I don't fancy someone letting themselves in either when we are here or not.
The reception staff just don't seem bothered, there are no apologies, there was no phone call to let me know what the position was.
We are here for another two days.
If we could get flights back now we would.

Thank you so much for your helpful feedback, that we surely consider to improve.
Regarding your observations about our corporate functions: we are aware that is not ideal to cater both, leisure guests and functions within the same space, but we are working on that. Soon our covered terrace at the pool side, with pull-out glass walls, will be available as an exclusive spot for our leisure guests, where you can enjoy the most beautiful view of the Resort. We are sorry that the Gourmet Restaurant was often occupied during your stay with us, we are also working on creating separate spaces here.
We hope to welcoming you back again as our guest where it will be our pleasure to offer you a complimentary SPA treatment with our qualified therapists

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at Palazzo Varignana Resort, and it just keeps getting better. This is clearly a "5 Star" resort!! We stayed in the Junior Suite with a large patio overlooking olive trees in the valley. What a way to have your morning coffee. The new restaurant in the main Palace is outstanding, and the service is outstanding! Most unique menu we have ever seen in Italy, and completely 5 star. We did a Nordic Walking Class, followed by a 2 hour trek which was great, then off to a great lunch in the Spa restaurant, and pool & sauna after. What a great place!

The Bartels Family spent a wonderful week enjoying the hotel, spa (many pools) and environs. The staff went out of their way to make our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. What a wonderful location, with magnificent views, right at the doorstep of Bologna. Here you can mix business with pleasure and above all learning ....
We will be back.

Very cosy and comfortable hotel located in Bologna area. Not far from the airport and all local major attractions. Staff is super friendly and aimed at making your stay comfortable. The hotel itself is located in a real Italian setting. You will not see other tourists wondering around. Not a big fan of SPA, but the number of different saunas is amazing. Rooms are big and very clean. The hotel conference center is available for all sorts of corporate events. Would definately stay there again.

Room Tip: ask at the reception. They will show you around so that you can make the best shot

Dear Rigo,
Thanks a lot for your nice review. We are a young and dynamic team and we are pleased that our motivation to work in such a beautiful and relaxing location is being appreciated. The fact that you will not see many tourists wondering around is because we are located in a very quiet and natural area on the Bolognese hills, which makes the Resort a great place for holding business events as well as spending a relaxing holiday. We are looking forward to welcoming you again to try our new Gourmet Restaurant “Il Palazzo” which opened recently and our outdoor vital-trail, which will be opening in Spring 2014.

I stayed at this beautiful resort with my son, daughter-in-law and infant grandson. A very lovely getaway. Very relaxing. We enjoyed the delicious meals in the Pool Bar & Lounge. And ahhhh . . . the spa was just wonderful. The rooms are very nicely appointed, with breathtaking views of the countryside. Their greatest asset in my opinion is the service received from each and every member of the staff, which left you wanting for nothing. Highly recommended.

We are very pleased that you had an enjoyable and relaxing stay with your family. Thank you for your compliments regarding our meals, our rooms, the SPA and our staff…in fact everything :) In the winter time we point a lot on our SPA activities like Aufguss (a ceremony in the sauna) or SPArty, the new way of celebrating the SPA. We are hoping to welcoming you and your family soon again to enjoy our SPA-activities

I was there for a business visit and stayed at the Palazzo di Varignana Resort & Spa .Indeed one of my most memorable stays at any Resort. The staff was most cordial and made me feel completely at home. Mr Vittori (GM) and Eliza at the restaurant deserve a special mention.
Whether with family or for a Conference, this place is very very strongly recommended and a must-stay place to experience the natural beauty and the welcoming staff.
best of luck, rajesh.
