“Good for a short stay”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

I stayed here 2 nights while in town to visit Palo Duro Canyon and Caprock Canyon. There aren't many options in town - I think this and a Best Western might be the only large hotels. The hotel was ok; nothing great, about what you'd expect for the price.

Pros:
- good location close to pretty much everything in town and only a short drive to Palo Duro; right next to WTAMU campus
- comfortable beds
- nice toiletries
- suites are roomy
- very good breakfast with hot & cold items
- staff was very nice

Cons:
- housekeeping wasn't very thorough - there was some trash on the floor near the trash can in our room when we checked in, also they left a nearly empty roll of toilet paper on the holder
- cheap, uncomfortable pillows
- hard to regulate temperature in room

Room Tip: Suites are only a little more expensive but include a sofa, table & chairs and a wet bar

We did not like the room they put us in, it had an odor. I checked with the person at the check in counter to see if we could be moved. She said that if would be no problem, but she said the room would be a suite and there would be no additional charge. This is the kind of service that keeps me coming back to HIE.

There is a train track close by and the train whistle is a little annoying in the morning, but the were a good alarm clock for me.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Canyon when travelling to attend the wedding of my nephew. It was very nice and comfortable. The breakfast was better than other hotels I have stayed at. My grandkids enjoyed the pool.

This is a relatively new hotel with big, comfortable rooms that are clean and quiet. However our room's air conditioner wasn't cooling very well, a noticeable shortcoming in August in Texas. Also the electrical plugs at the base of the bedside lamps for charging phones didn't work. Nor did the in-room coffee maker. The manager brought us a fan and a new coffee maker but it was still a hassle.

However, We’re sorry we fell below your expectation regarding the air conditioning and the electrical outlets. We will look into this point. I assure you the feedback of our hotel will be reviewed and most certainly forwarded to the appropriate departments. We take the confidence our guests place in us very seriously and work diligently to rectify any unsatisfactory experiences. We stayed in Canyon on 8/19/2013 to visit Palo Duro Canyon and to go through the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. This hotel is on the same road as both of these attractions. When we made the reservations on line, we noticed that they had a large 2 bedroom/2 bath suite which was perfect for the three of us traveling together. Room 324 had a king bedroom, a queen bedroom with its own bath (shower only), and a sleeper sofa in the living area, along with a kitchen area with microwave, sink, and small fridge. Three flat screen TVs. There is a full service restaurant right next door. Everything in this hotel was wonderful - the room, the beds and pillows, the breakfast, the front desk service!

Room Tip: Room 324 is in the back, at end of the top floor, a great value for a large family or girls trip.
