To enter this park, there is an automated gate. You put in $7. for day use fee, and the gate opens. The park is fairly large and has a good bit of lake frontage. I come here often, as we live fairly close by. My biggest gripe is the amount of trash that people leave here. The crew cannot adequately pick it up. There are cans in the water, misc. pieces of trash all over, really. The lake itself is fairly clear. A designated swim area has a sandy bottom. Other areas have more of a rocky bottom. There are picnic tables, clean restrooms at the top, and a playground. A boat launch is around the bend.

I visited Canyon Lake for a few hours to site see. Very picturesque and relaxing. There are plenty of areas for setting camp to enjoy with family and friends. The drive through Hill country is also smooth.

Our first time visiting this park. We found conditions terrible. There were dirty diapers floating in the water, along with pieces of styrofoam floating around and broken glass on the lake bed. People had pulled the park benches into the water and there was little to no supervision of young children. Security patrols seemed uninterested in the situation and only drove by. We found the park very unappealing. I wont go into detail about the beer drinking and discarding beer cans in the water.

My family and close friends went out to Canyon Lake this past Sunday-Tuesday for a mini-vacation not too far from home. We had a reservation for two cabins. A cabin had two rooms (total of five beds), one bathroom, kitchen/dining area, living room, and patio out back. The facilities were clean and well maintained. There was plenty of space for everyone!

The lake is a short walk from the cabins. Unfortunately, do to the heavy rains we had weeks ago, the water levels were too high to rent a boat from the marina. We were still able to go swimming! We weren't able to go tubing in the Guadalupe River close by, but we drove a bit to the Comal River and still got to go tubing. If you are interested in tubing, lots of tube rentals close to the area.

The kitchen set up was great for the potluck we had. We were provided with kitchen necessities which was a nice gesture! Mattresses were not very comfortable, but you can manage to get some sleep. Bathrooms had no issues. Faucets and showers worked efficiently.

I felt that the cabins offered a lot of privacy. We all enjoyed our break from city life. I would highly recommend the place for families looking for a place to relax outside the city.
