The Lakehouse Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #2 of 6 Canyon Lake B&B and Inns
Reviewed 27 September 2012

Loved this B&B! Right on Canyon Lake with a beautiful view of the lake from all rooms. You can tell they have spent a LOT of time on their beautiful Mediterranean landscaping all over the house including the beautiful backyard with at least 3 different areas with scenic spots to stop and take in the scenery. Justin was amazing, all accommodating in every way but never in your space. Loved the big rooms with private baths and the special touches the Justin and Jean left in the room every day. Great pool and hot tub too! A wonderful stay and will go back again & have already recommended it to many! Thanks! :)

This bed & breakfast exceeded my expectations! I even made a mistake and booked the wrong dates for my lodging, and they were fantastic in working with me quickly to correct it. This beautiful b&b is tucked away in a less-than-appealing neighborhood (it's only con), and feels very private with a locked gate, tall fences, and lots of native Texas greenery. In my opinion, they offer the most service out of any hotel or b&b I've ever stayed at: pool, hot tub, jacuzzi tubs (in some rooms), gorgeous views, near lake/hiking, complimentary snacks, robes, and delicious breakfast. This was an excellent experience I would recommend to anyone!

Room Tip: Marrakesh room has a jacuzzi tub!

We had a wonderful experience at this very small, very unique B&B on Lake Canyon, Texas. Justin was a terrific host, planning two delicious breakfast meals for us over the weekend, providing a very clean and inviting 2-room suite with a beautiful view of Lake Canyon from our patio. Justin entertained us with stories of how this particular B&B came to be, and made us feel like old friends of his by the time we departed for our home in Houston. The deer are plentiful, with good hiking and restaurants nearby. The coffee was always available, the in-room refrigerator always had cold drinks for us, and the cozy robes and slippers were sitting by our huge bathtub, compliments of Justin for our weekend use. We would definitely recommend this B&B for a weekend get-away.

Room Tip: We had the Mediterranean Room and loved the location!

We had a wonderful experience at the Lakehouse Bed and Breakfast. The room was well appointed and super clean. The view was amazing. Justin and Jean were great hosts, more than willing to accommodate my vegetarian and gluten free diet. The breakfast were very good and the company was too. I highly recommend the Lakehouse Bed and Breakfast.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Le Metropolitan room and access was only by a small outside spiral staircase. Guest...

We loved the Lakehouse Bed & Breakfast. Justin was just great - so professional, yet very welcoming and hospitable. We felt like true guests. The extra touches made the weekend that much more special. Awesome breakfasts, a nice variety of coffee and tea, and delicious chocolate cake! You can tell he really takes pride in this property and making guests feel comfortable. The architecture of the home is so unique, it really works well for multiple guests to be there and have privacy at the same time.

I read the reviews before we left and wasn't quite sure what to expect. After an amazing, relaxing weekend, I would recommend this hidden gem to just about anyone. This isn't the Four Seasons, it's a quiet, quaint bed & breakfast on a beautiful lake in central Texas. If you want a simple, quiet getaway, that is exactly what you will find here. You won't find four-star restaurants or a crazy night-life scene on this part of the lake. We found the deer quite endearing, and loved feeding them numerous times a day. We felt incredibly safe walking around the neighborhood. Being in an older, more settled neighborhood wasn't bothersome at all. I suppose it comes down to a traveler's preference, but I would take the Lakehouse B&B over a large commercialized resort any day.

We are already talking about our next trip to the Lakehouse B&B!

The inn keeper Justin and his wife Jean were wonderful, both were more than willing to assist in any and all needs and gave excellent recommendations on things to do as well as places to eat. Of course entering our room and being greeted by a dozen roses and an excellent triple chocolate cake dessert with strawberries certainly makes a great first impression as well. They seem to have all the details in order. Previous reviews commented on the 'eclectic' nature of the area and yes all of that is true however none of it kept us from enjoying our time or getting out and walking around.

Pros: The facilities were great and the views incredible. In addition to a pool there was access to the lake where a hammock and table were available. A common area had games and books and offered a place to relax with coffees, teas and hot chocolate only a button (Keurig) away. Breakfast was light but sufficient. I normally like the more full breakfasts (eggs, sausage, bacon, toast) however I was very satisfied with the lighter (and healthier) fare that Justin so properly prepared. Presentation as well as the taste was excellent. Beautiful views complemented the food as well as great discussion; Justin not only prepares the food but also finds a way to entertain/inform you with a wealth of information on the local area.

Our room, the Mediterranean, was very quite, comfortable and isolated. If you like deer that are almost tame and abundant, eager to eat (corn provided); you'll love this place. Although this last positive isn't directly related to the B&B it contributed greatly to the satisfaction of our stay and was the icing on the cake to an already wonderful vacation. Justin and Jean highly recommended a local (five minutes away) Italian eatery (Gennaro's) that was absolutely wonderful. It was so good that we ate there both nights we were there, we could not recommend it more highly. Atmosphere, food, service and prices were better than I could have ever expected. The bread alone is worth the trip...you won't be disappointed!

Cons: As much as we enjoyed our room there were some small things that kept it from being exceptional. Patio door (bedroom) curtains didn't fully close and kept our privacy in suspense. We also experienced an issue with the toilet that had a stoppage issue which wasn't a simple fix; also a desk or table where one could work would have been nice, the other three rooms have one. Also we went for the extra cost gourmet basket of cheeses, meats and other fine foods that also included a wine tasting at Dry Comal Creek winery. The basket was great and had lots of goodies we enjoyed immensely however the wine tasting didn't leave a good taste in our mouths. First of all there are no tours during the week so that kept the experience from being complete but most disappointingly the owner wasn't initially very friendly or helpful. With the cost of this excursion being limited to only a tasting and the less than warm reception I wouldn't recommend this to others. On top of that we really didn't enjoy any of the wines.

Overall I highly recommend the Lakehouse B&B. There are many excellent day trips within a half an hour that should satisfy any wants/needs. If you are looking for peaceful and quiet surrounding where the hustle and stress of your normal life are put on hold, this is the place for you. For those who want a little adventure the obvious lake opportunities are available. For those, like us, who are looking for something less 'exciting' a day trip to Gruene should always fit the bill; however for us the town of Wimberley was even better. There are more shops that carry items made by local artisans combined with less of a tourist atmosphere which made all the difference to us.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mediterranean room and were overall very happy. The room features a double jet tub...
