“Excellent Getaway!”

We purchased a two-night special on Amazon Local. It turned out to be an amazing purchase! Our stay was in one of the lodge suites: a fully-furnished mini-apartment. The only negative about the accommodations was the unsightly Murphy bed. Everything we needed was at our fingertips. A few days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, to experience peace and serenity, was our goal, and that's exactly what we got! We so enjoyed feeding the deer, admiring the beautiful peacock family (with two adorable little chicks), and basking in the quiet. We are already planning our next visit!

Room Tip: We loved being upstairs which provided a better view of the lake. We also love the porch swings and...

Went there on an Amazon Local Deal for 2 nights with wine tasting for 2 at Dry Comal Creek Vineyards & Winery, which was a super deal! We stayed in a Lodge Suite, which offered full kitchen amenities but not so much bathroom amenities, although forewarned by management. During our stay we also spent time listening to live music at Gruene Hall and had dinner at Gennaro's Trattoria, which was authentic, superb, and highly recommended. Sangria is a MUST at Dry Comal Creek! Feeding deer at the resort was the highlight of my trip...I mean, where else can you feed wild deer? We floated (bring your own inflatables) in the lake for several hours and enjoyed the pool. We took advantaged of their gas grills, BBQ'd burgers, and enjoyed them on the deck. We'll definitely return, but next time in a Comal Cabin because we couldn't stop looking them, they were so nice! And next time we'll also make the time to relax by the firepits...so looking forward to our next stay!

Stayed there for two nights and the length of stay was just right as there is not too much to do in the immediate area. The king bed was way too soft for me so I woke up with a backache. The ladies that cleaned the rooms and helped me with booking were very nice though.
Our neighbors stayed up till midnight making noise outside on the patio which was very irritating however, since it is difficult to get a live person, I just ignored them as best I could.
We took our bikes to do some riding, however, the area is very hilly so our 8 year old could not handle the hills very well so something to be aware of.
All-in-all, not a bad getaway if just to relax and take in the lake for boating, jet skiing or just swimming.

Room Tip: Stayed in lodge suite #2 upstairs. If you cannot sleep on soft mattresses then do not pick this roo...

This was a perfect retreat for us. We were there mid-June and couldn't have asked for nicer weather. We had 7 people in a cathedral cabin....just lovely! Everything was immaculate and the staff was more than accommodating. Our granddaughters (14, 10, 8) loved swimming in the pool and enjoyed spending time with Sarah...lovely daughter of someone working there. The decks have such a beautiful view and the beds were very comfortable. We spent time playing games with each other (rather than an electronic device), feeding the deer (a highlight), and enjoying the beautiful setting. The kids had a great time finding shells by the swimming cove. We enjoyed s'mores on the last night as well as singing John Denver songs around the fire! What a beautiful escape from reality! Thank you for a great stay!

We spent 2 nights here the end of June and really wish we had booked more time! We had three couples in adjoining rooms and spent most of our time on the deck overlooking the lake and the plethora of critters that were very friendly and obviously well taken care of by the guest and the staff.
All the staff was helpful, friendly and informative. They worked very hard to keep all the units and grounds were clean and in tip-top shape. The beds were comfortable, the kitchens and linens well supplied, the AC worked very well and it was really nice to have reliable Wi-Fi.
Would certainly come back again.
CS from San Antonio

Room Tip: Downstairs room in the multiple unit lodge. Next time would like to try a cabin.

Why call it a "resort" and create false expectations?

This is a nice self-service motel with great views of the lake (depending on your room), four cabins downhill and a pool across the road. Emphasis here on "self service" because this motel has no front desk, or guest lounge. There is no one there to help the guests in any manner. They are supposed to email you an access code to enter your room, which they failed to do to us. Luckily one of the other guests had a mobile number for the remote manager (their main office only opens from Monday to Thursday).

The one thing you will not find there is a "resort". Don't be fooled by the name or by the heavily photo shopped website. Pay attention to the online reviews. We didn't (because we got a huge discount from Amazon Local) and regretted it (not worth even after the discount).

We had a family reunion at this resort over Memorial Day weekend this year. Members of our family ranged from 3 years to 80 years old, and a good time was had by all! Each family unit had their own suite, and everyone was very pleased about having their own kitchen, living area and bedrooms. The kids loved the bunk beds and connecting spiral staircases to their parents' rooms on the 2nd floor. The decks/balconies outside of each room had a nice table with chairs, and this made for a nice and convenient gathering place for everyone. We were just a very short walk down a pretty trail from Canyon Lake, with our own private cove to swim in. Some opted for the large swimming pool (3.5 feet deep throughout) over swimming in the lake. We all enjoyed the sand volleyball court, too. There was plenty of area to just walk around the grounds, and there were many deer that were more than eager to be hand-fed...right up to the steps of the 1st floor decks! Everyone LOVED the deer! And, there was a "Security Peacock"...actually 2 peacocks, a male (whose plumage we got to see!) and a female, along with a nest of eggs while we were there. They may have hatched by now. Some of the family took a short trip up the lake and rented jet skis one day. Water craft rentals of all types are available, as well as, parasailing trips over the lake. BBQ pits are on the grounds for anyone's use. There is also a conference-type building where we all gathered for a private, catered dinner one evening. This was such a GREAT resort and location...we'll be back again and again!

Room Tip: If you have a large family unit, you can rent a room upstairs for the adults and let the kids sleep...
