We had high hopes for Beck Cottage, as it was the second most expensive of 10 holiday homes we booked on this trip overseas. The location is stunning, and a number of very good walks begin from the back door. It is also certainly cosy on a cold night with the curtains shut and the fire going. However, while there is evidence that this was once a great place to stay, it has sadly been neglected - inside and outside. As an example, the phone and books for visitors' use in an adjacent barn are covered with poo from the birds nesting overhead. The baking dishes and frying pan were rusty and the cupboards smelt so musty that we kept them open as much as possible. The water has been deemed by a local authority as unsafe to drink, and while some bottled water was provided, it is a nuisance when preparing food and brushing teeth, and prospective guests should be advised of this in advance. The owners were very understanding and tolerant when we lost track of the date and returned late from a walk when we should have checked out 5 hours earlier!
good area to explore north Yorkshire moors a wonderful base. owners very friendly, very clean accommodation, and a real log fire if required, also a small welcome pack which makes you feel very welcome. cannot recommend enough
