“What a delight!”
Reviewed 12 April 2015 for a stay in January 2015

I have stayed here bi yearly for some time now. Its a wonderful setting to 'get away from it all'. It is clean, comfortable and well presented with a real fire which really give the homely feel. The area the cottage is set in is really beautiful and there are many walks straight from the front door. Great local pub too!! The owners,Jean and Mal, are so welcoming and lovely people. Also very knowledgeable. I always look forward to staying here. See you soon. Sarah

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 2 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We had high hopes for Beck Cottage, as it was the second most expensive of 10 holiday homes we booked on this trip overseas. The location is stunning, and a number of very good walks begin from the back door. It is also certainly cosy on a cold night with the curtains shut and the fire going. However, while there is evidence that this was once a great place to stay, it has sadly been neglected - inside and outside. As an example, the phone and books for visitors' use in an adjacent barn are covered with poo from the birds nesting overhead. The baking dishes and frying pan were rusty and the cupboards smelt so musty that we kept them open as much as possible. The water has been deemed by a local authority as unsafe to drink, and while some bottled water was provided, it is a nuisance when preparing food and brushing teeth, and prospective guests should be advised of this in advance. The owners were very understanding and tolerant when we lost track of the date and returned late from a walk when we should have checked out 5 hours earlier!

We are pleased your enjoyed your stay with us and appreciated the stunning location and wonderful walks direct from the door.

I'm sure you appreciate that we tried to meet your many requests both before you arrived and during your stay, at no extra cost to yourselves.

We love having the swallows to nest during the summer but they can leave a mess which is why we moved the books and videos to the individual cottages some time ago - the remaining books are not for the use of our guests. The swallows bring us and our guests much joy.

I am still using the oven pans which I swopped with you as they are "seasoned", making them non stick.

New rules have recently been introduced regarding private water supplies and, as you said, we did provide bottled water, something most international travellers are used to. We have drunk our water for more than 30 years.

Hope you made it in time for your next accommodation, it was a rush to clean the cottage for the next guests as you left me only 15 minutes to do this - thankfully they arrived later and were unaware of the potential inconvenience.

Hopefully you are back home safe and sound after your foreign adventure.
