“Beware of Gift Shop Manager”
Reviewed 5 August 2011

The Hotel was pleasant enough but the limited elevator capacity makes for a tough time getting up and down during peak hours of our convention. The maid service was also not able to accomodate us daily because the hotel was at capacity. So, out of six nights, two we did not receive maid service..............and we were not told in advance. We just walked into our room after a long work day and it was a mess.

Mostly I write this to tell you to beware of the gift shop manager. He is creepy and sneaky.
I purchased an item for 12.99 and he rang it up for 14.99...................when I questioned him he corrected it and then the total came out to 14.09 YET when he ran my credit card he ran it for 14.96.......................I guess the gift shop is operated separately from the Hotel but it is a poor reflection on them when its time to write a review.

Add a couple of extra mirrors in the room, ie, 3 people needed to get ready and the only mirror was in the bathroom or the closet door outside of the bathroom. A mirror over the desk would have helped when we all needed to apply our makeup, etc... Although there were plenty of lamps/fixtures, the lighting was very dim.

The Adolphus is exquisite! The decor is beautiful, the rooms very clean, the staff friendly and helpful, the food very good. I love that I can walk to the Convention Center from the hotel. Ihave stayed here almost every year for my Mary Kay seminar for about the past 10 years

This is my third stay at the Adolphus (last was 2009), my wife has stayed there over 20 times. This hotel (which was once a real Star) is in sad need of a total renovation. The wear and tear on this once proud relic is evident everywhere. Front desk manager (Chris) was useless-he could not even give us a credible excuse for the problems we were having. The bright "Stars" were front desk person Lizzy who was exceptional, and bellman Jerry who was/is a real helpful gentleman. Our excutive suite (about 400 square feet) had 1 small 8" X 10" air conditioning vent on the upper wall above the bed. The living room and bathroom were sweltering while the bed was cool. There are no ice machines, so you order ice from room service and then wait 30 to 45 minutes so you can give them the expected tip when they deliver the ice. We were there 5 days and 2 of those days we did not get a complete set of clean towels and no replacement of the shampoo, etc. which had been used. While this is a non smoking hotel, 2 nights we returned to our room to smell cigarette smoke coming thru the bathroom vent. The hotel did send someone up quickly to deodorize the room. The walls are thin, the outside/hallway noise is easily heard in the rooms. There are only 5 elevators for the 400+ rooms, and they are quite small. There is only 1 service elevator which goes to/from the ground floor/bellman stand-so getting your luggage up or down was a real chore. When we were checking out, I asked for a bellman at 10:30 AM, 11:45 AM, and 1:45 AM. The bellman arrived at 2:05 PM. The new Omni Hotel (connected to the Convention Center) is opening 11-11-11. We will be staying there from now on, and so will our friends. The really good thing about The Adolphus: Their beds-one of the best I have ever slept on. Sad to have to write this lengthy review, but I am sure I am not alone in these experiences with The Adolphus. ALSO: DO NOT USE "THE SUPER SHUTTLE" to/from the airports. They have been consistently late and totally unreliable. Two of our friends missed their flights, and we almost missed ours.

This hotel is conveniently located, easy to get to and exceptionally comfortable.
The rooms are very large and the beds are the most comfortable I've experienced in a hotel room, as were the pillows.
Not once did I hear any noise from adjacent rooms, or any in the hallway outside the room.
I would go back to stay and highly recommend this hotel to all considering it.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful, and elegant. The staff was very friendly. They went above and beyond, and handled the large mass of people that were there for the Mary Kay convention very well, and with much ease.

I stay at the Adolphus every year for an annual convention. We have a choice of many hotels and the Adolphus is my favorite because of it's historical beauty, impeccably maintained facility and gracious staff. The staff does everything possible to ensure a wonderful stay. The hotel is decorated beautifully in rich, warm colors. I highly recommend the Adolphus to anyone staying in the downtown area. Thank you Adolphus for another wonderful visit!
