“Great theatre near downtown”
Review of Magnolia Theatre

The Magnolia is one of several go-to theatres in our area. It shows a broad range of movies and has pretty nice finish out. This last time, we saw Les Miz with the family, and used the reserved seats option. My wife could not book online, so we had to stop at the theatre two hours in advance to purchase and select our seats. Only the last two rows (and first row) were available, and we took them. Even from the back row, it has a large screen and a good sound system to go with comfortable seats, good sight lines and more than adequate leg room.

Having to go twice was not fun, and pointed up the Magnolia's key drawback: parking. There is a parking garage (free parking and I have historically be able to find a space, but it's tight), valet (a little spendy) or, if you are really lucky, street parking.

Again, once you get past the parking, however, it's a pretty space with the normal range of theatre food and drink.

The Magnolia used to be the perfect theater - until they created a "premium" theater with servers and assigned seating. It took forever to buy tickets. We had to choose seats on a chart. Then they gave us tickets for the wrong seats. Then we got stuff at the snack bar and some girl took it away from us and insisted on escorting us to our seats and carrying our snacks. There was total congestion in the theater with everyone trying to find their seats and all of the servers running around escorting people to their seats and taking orders for drinks. Very annoying. Hey - Magnolia - here's a tip - SIMPLIFY. It's the way of the world. Hello.

We visit this fairly often with Tuesday evening specials and a nice bottle of shiraz helping most movies along gently!

For those movie lovers wanting to see a movie in uptown Dallas this is the place. Take I-75 and exit Lemmon Ave. and go East just a couple of blocks like 3 perhaps 4 and there it is on the right side. Near it, it has a great parking 4 level garage or if your lucky you will find one on the surrounding streets. The popcorn at movie theater for some reason or another is very scrumptious. You can also buy wine and beer. Of course, all around the movie theater there are many restaurants like, "Mi cocina," which means "My kitchen," and many other restaurants and classy stores.

In the middle of Dallas Up-Town, which is constantly growing and improving, the Magnolia theater, is definitely one of the jewels in the crown. The outsides cafes, ice cream places and restaurants, are always crowded with happy folks. This is the place in Dallas, which people now come to see and be seen. Most of the time, self parking will be available, but at the peak times, you'll have to rely on valet. The films that are played have a lot of resemblance to those that are played in the Angelika Theater, just like the halls and the audience that comes here. Definitely very high on my favorites list.
