“Just as special as when I was a kid, 50+ years ago!”

Owner description: This grand old movie house in downtown Denton was renovated in the early 1990’s and is now a 300-seat performing arts theatre with more than 100 musical and theatrical performances each year. It is the showplace for Denton Community Theatre and Music Theatre of Denton, as well as many other community performance groups.

This is a former movie theater, and while reconfigured into an intimate Broadway style theater, it retains its original interesting architecture (check out the lobby ceilings and floors, and the theater walls). Home to many events, I mostly see shows by Denton Community Theater and Music Theatre of Denton, which generally contain a lot of talent and are first rate. But due to how it's run, who you know, who's sleeping with who, etc, an occasional production is poorly casted or directed, and of course, when it's all volunteer, some say "They should just be glad I showed up at rehearsals!" That being said, I am rarely disappointed and am appreciative that the musicals have live musicians, the sets have an actual carpenter and scene shop, and the crowds are part of the excitement.

Took my wife of 52 years on our first date to this theater. It has been restored beautifully serving as a venue for the local theater company.

I have seen quite a few musicals at the Campus and enjoyed everyone except for "Rent" which we left early on. The acting and singing is usually exceptional for such a small theatre and one that stays in memory was the Patsy Cline story. The singing was Broadway quality! I encourage anyone to try this venue at least once, and you may become a regular!

This theater is wonderful! It's small enough to be cozy and intimate, beautifully refurbished and lovingly kept up by staff and volunteers alike. The performances are notoriously wonderfully done, in this amazing little treasure. Sound quality is amazing and the only thing lacking is enough staff and enough space and enough selection for half time intermissions.

I love this theater, we go a few time a year and have never seen a bad show. Whether you are in the front row or the last you have a good view of the stage and can hear everything, they do a great job of staging, lighting and production. Get on hteir list and I look forward to the next production.
