Owner description: An exhibit of gowns worn by the First Ladies of Texas, this collection, the only one in existence, includes either the actual garments or faithful copies of the gowns worn by the wives of the governors of Texas and presidents of the Republic of Texas. This exhibit was first created in 1940 and has been updated with gowns worn by former first ladies Mamie Eisenhower and Lady Bird Johnson during their husbands’ terms in the White House.
