I rarely review the decline and fall of restaurants, but my previous review of Sweet Basil as decidedly hopeful. At the time, it was transitioning to new ownership with a renewed commitment to excellent Thai food in comfortable ambience.
Simply put, Sweet Basil has lost its way. Spring rolls, once a house specialty, now consist almost entirely of rough-chopped iceberg lettuce, accompanied by a tablespoon serving of peanut sauce. Meat portions, previously including a generous servings of chicken, pork, and beef, can now only be characterized as appetizer size, at best.
Although I am not necessarily a fan of candle lights for setting a pleasant or even romantic mood, their ersatz replacements with tiny fake candles sporting a flickering LED lights really epitomizes the final collapse of what was once a very good Thai restaurant.
