We spent an afternoon roaming around and exploring Lake Worth. The city of Fort Worth has a series of small parks around the lake, some of them with just picnic area and playgrounds, and some of them with sand beaches. They seem to be under-utilized. At least this meant it wasn’t crowded when we were there. The largest park that we visited was Casino Beach, and there were only a few families swimming there even though it was a warm Saturday afternoon.
Casino Beach has an interesting history. It used to be a major entertainment area with a boardwalk, dance hall, roller coaster, etc. Looking at it now, it’s hard to believe. Now there is mostly empty land with nothing to indicate what it once was. It would be nice if there was some kind of interpretive sign or historic marker indicating that there had been more to it than a large grassy field with a strip of beach and boat ramp.
The parks all appeared to be clean and well maintained, and would be perfect for a family outing or small gathering of friends.
