We ended up at Silver Creek because there was no wait for a table on a Friday night. The service was prompt. The beer menu was extensive, about 10 on draft and an additional 50 or so in bottles. The soup of the day was green chili corn butternut squash. It arrived piping hot and the flavor combinations were spicy and savory. I had the chicken fried steak covered in cream gravy, served with mashed potatoes and corn. The steak was thick and surprisingly juicy, two attributes rarely found in that dish. My friend, a native German, had the jaeger schnitzel with spaetzle and asparagus; the dish on the menu is served with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. There was an additional charge for the substitutions. He said that the schnitzel was very good but needed more mushroom sauce and the spaetzle was homemade and the best he had eaten in Fredericksburg. My mom had the Santa Fe salad, which came with a flat iron steak and southwestern egg roll. The steak, served at salad temperature, was cooked medium rare and seasoned to perfection. It too was surprisingly tender. The chipotle ranch dressing was smoky and had just the right amount of kick to enhance the flavors of the salad. After dinner we moved to the outside area to listen to the live music. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Fredericksburg peach martini, which had a wonderful peach flavor without being too sweet and a hint of fresh basil. I highly recommend Silver Creek for the good food and atmosphere.
