“Wonderful Hill Country Getaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2011

How can I say enough about our weekend getaway at their lovely cottages. Quaint and charming from the exterior yet, like a 5 star hotel in the interior. Flat screen tv, stone fireplace, jacuzzi, mini kitchen with granite and copper, leather couches and all the amenities you could ask for. We travel a lot and stay in many 4 and 5 star places, and we can't wait to return. Just imagine sitting on rocking chairs on your own front porch and looking out at the deer and elk that surround you. Owners were friendly, attentive and helpful. They even give you restaurant vouchers to choose your place to dine for breakfast in town. We had the yummiest German pancakes and pastries!! This place was more than you could ask for in a Hill Country romantic and peaceful weekend.

Chose this location because we need to be able to stay with our English Springer Spaniel. We normally don't travel with her but it was required this weekend. We learned that finding pet friendly accommodations is not as easy as it would seem. Fortunately this location is very accommodating, even if you need to leave your pet in the room unattended.

Our only complaint was the size of the shower in room 106. It was so small that if you dropped something you would have to step out of the shower to be able to pick it up...and that is not an exaggeration. I understand that other rooms have more traditional size showers, but I would recommend that you verify that ahead of time.

During our stay we did pay a visit to the Cottages and were quite impressed. We intend to try them at some point in the future.

Room Tip: Room 106 has a VERY small shower. You have to step out if you need to pick up the soap...and I am s...

We got tipped on the Country Inn & Cottages (we stayed at the inn) by some friends who stay there often. It's a cool old style 30s-40s motel where you park in front of your room. It's been completely redone & modernized, complete with flat screen tv. The price s great when compared to other options in Fredericksburg. The owners are spoken of very highly in town, they have done a great job with the place. Internet was a little spotty but was free. There's a beer & wine store right across the street, pretty handy if you run out of adult beverages. Very near all the action in downtown too. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from us!

The room's decor was great! Very country and quality throughout. Many amenities, jacuzzi tub, HD TV, kitchenette, internet access, pool, etc. Very clean and comfy. We only stayed one night as we were on a quick road trip. But was very impressed and well worth the price.

Up in Fredericksburg, there is a variety of things to do. There are museums, an event with Live music nearly every night, and a whole town ready to serve you. But, my friend and I wanted to get away. That's why we stayed in the Country Inn and Cottages - literally the cottages.
We stayed in Cabin 19, and we couldn't have been more pleased. The bed was soft and clean, and it was quiet. So very quiet. We couldn't hear any traffic on the road, or the whine of the fire alarm.
The main room has a lot of space in it. And the air conditioner was very efficient, keeping the room cold even during the hot of the day. Our cabin had a Jacuzzi bathtub/shower. We got two people in it, but we could have fit three. And the mini-fridge really held a lot of stuff (See picture).
To beat the epic heat, we utilized their pool. Now... I have a thing about pools. If it is in any way dirty, or I get even the smallest whiff of chlorine, I'm not there. Drives me nuts. But, I am very happy to report that this pool had neither of those faults. The owner (great guy) was telling me that the pool bottom lies directly on the bed-rock layer, and that's what keeps the pool at its very comfortable temperature. Also, they have a vending machine. With wine-bottle openers. Very useful.
I strongly recommend staying in the Cottages. It was great being just a couple of minutes from town, surrounded by the Hill Country. Wide spaces, relaxing quietness. If you want to immerse yourself in the rustic charm of an old Texas ranch, while still enjoying the pleasantries of modern functionality, this is your stop. And they have elk. Elk are just plain cool!

From the very minute that my getaway small wedding started to turn into a disaster due to another rental that has been completely misrepresented to the end of the perfect fairy tale wedding I was more than impressed with this property! I called after spending a horrible night at a historic home west of town and was just trying to salvage a 9 person, no guests wedding. Jeff took me out to the cottages and I broke down in tears due to how absolutely PERFECT the property is! Gorgeous rock cottages with stained concrete floors, leather furniture, cowhide rugs and antler handles no less on the doors! Beautifully decorated and all of the upscale amenities that we could ask for - we even held our wedding in the courtyard! I visit Fredericksburg three times a year and will never stay anywhere else again! The owners are lovely people and have impeccable taste - they have created the quintessential Hill Country experience with the deer, elk, cattle, peacocks and the most beautiful cottages I have ever seen! Thank you Jeff and Amy for making our special day so perfect! Your kindness in unmatched!

Room Tip: Book in advance for a one or two bedroom cottage - they are stunning!

We stayed with four couples in two units. We were in unit 2 and the other couples stayed in half of the first floor of the main house (unit 4 iirc).

Our unit was really neat with the following caveats;
-it is small
-the bathroom is through one bedroom
-If you are in the loft, be prepared to climb!

Getting into the loft bedroom could pose difficult for many. Once up there, it was cute and comfy. Older and/or overweight people and young children may have issues with the ladder (it is steep). You have to keep in mind that the front buildings are original to the property, so they have their quirks. That said, the buildings are really neat. The unit the others had was much larger. Both units were clean.

I liked getting the breakfast vouchers as opposed to a continental breakfast from a hotel. We ate breakfast both mornings at the Old German Bakery (great omelets and biscuits). The vouchers are for $6, so you will have to pay a couple dollars for a “real” breakfast.

We had a great time here. Fredericksburg is interesting, but we had as much fun hanging outside around the pool with the other guests. We would definitely stay here again!
