First let me say, we are not crazy picky but we believe you should get what you pay for. We stayed at Bierchwale Estate, which is part of the All Season's Fredericksburg B&B. It is one of the most expensive cottages in Fredericksburg at $200 a night during the week and $250 on weekends. Because of that I expect more but with that said I will start with the pros. This is one of the quaintest B&B's we've ever stayed at. It said it was built in 1869, but the house attached to the property said 1889. It is a little log cabin with a built-on area that is located behind the main house. It was extremely clean, nicely decorated, cozy and felt very authentic to the time. The bed was wonderful. It was overstuffed, so much so that it was hard to get in and out of, but very comfortable. The shower was good and the location was great. It was just off Main, but it was quiet because it was further north than the main shopping area and was set back at least half a block. The gardens were beautiful and charming.
Now the cons: The breakfast was not par for this type of expensive room. Cold cereal, Danish and fruit which was in a small fridge. Nothing hot delivered and everything was delivered the day before. The bathroom was unacceptable because the toilet is in dire need of repair and runs constantly and loudly. It was a known problem because it was actually shut off at the wall when we got there and that is what we had to do each night in order to sleep. The faucet in the bath and kitchen sink sprays everywhere so you are soaked anytime you need to wash your hands or brush your teeth. There was a hand soap dispenser provided but it had been watered down so much there was no soap and it wouldn't clean your hands. This is a $2 item and shouldn't be watered down. There are only two coffee cups provided so you had to wash them yourself each day if you wanted coffee the following morning. Only four forks for Danish, so again, you will be washing your own dishes. There are not "robes" provided as advertised. There is one robe and an additional belt. Someone might have made off with the additional robe sans the belt lol. There are no hangers in the closet except one plastic Wal-Mart hanger and one dry-cleaner's hanger, so there's no way to unpack and hang your clothing. Several windows are broken so we had some bugs and a mosquito, also a draft which made it pretty chilly in the morning. The television is extremely small and sits on the opposite side of the living area so you can't really see it unless you pull a chair up to it. If we would have paid $150 a night, these are things I would be willing to live with but knowing that only one night's fee would correct everything listed, it is not acceptable. There are so many B&B's in town that when we come back, we will try a different one.
