We planned to stay 2 nights at Walnut Canyon and then 2 nights at a fancier, more expensive rental home. After day 2, we decided to stay all 4 nights at Walnut Canyon. We stayed in the Rocky Top cabin (One couple) and it was just perfect. Because it has 2 rooms, 2 couples or a family could work. But we found the size to be perfect as we each had our own "couch" on which to stretch out and take in the views and we stored our clothes and bags in the second room. It was very comfortable. The host, David, was super nice and thoughtful. (We mentioned a ride we planned to take and the next morning, there was a really good map stuck in the seat of our bike.) The location was great... we had spent one night in Fredericksburg (Inn on Barons Creek) so we got our shopping and sight-seeing done before coming out. Then we went back into "town" one more day and did the other things we wanted to do in town (Enchanted Rock, Pacific War Museum.) We also did the 3-Sisters ride (add in hwy 39) and found this to be a great base of operations for everything we wanted to do. The $ is a great value... the washer/dryer was great since we travelled by motorcycle. Deer came right up by our patio on two occasions. Definitely do the lower level on Old Tunnel bat emergence and eat at Alamo Springs Cafe several times. We'll definitely keep Walnut Canyon on our list of places we will recommend and return.
