Our stay at this bed and breakfast was a wonderful experience. My wife and I really enjoyed the privacy, close enough to Fredericksburg to make it easy to enjoy all that the city offers, but far enough away to feel like you were in the country. The breakfast was delicious and quite enjoyable! We plan to spend time here the next time we visit Fredericksburg.

Room Tip: No swimming pool, so no opportunity to evaluate.

My husband and I were in San Antonio for a family celebration and were so pleasantly rewarded with, not only a terrific family get together, but warm, delightful accommodations. We chose stay in Fredericksburg to incorporate a bit of sight seeing in with our visit. Fredericksburg is a most charming town and Der Stall captured the flavor of the town perfectly. Set on the outskirts of town it even comes equipped with browsing animals in the morning to add to the "little German barn" ambiance. Inside the B&B all of the amenities were plentiful and even though we did not use the loft, we were thrilled with the hot tub in our room on the main floor. My diet did not like the breakfast brought to us, but I did love it!!! The innkeeper is an amazing cook, providing not only German delights but the recipes to bring home to try to duplicate. I would highly recommend Der Stall if you are in the Fredericksburg area for a visit and, if you do go, make sure you thoroughly look through and appreciate all the authentic German memorabilia that decorates the rooms. Much time and effort was put forth by the innkeeper and it shows!!!

We had a very relaxing get-away at Der Stall Bed and Breakfast barn. The barn was cute and decorated quite interestingly - lots to see. The jacuzzi was such fun. The breakfasts were delicious each morning. The innkeepers couldn't be nicer. Very clean.

My wife and I wanted quiet, intimate and private place to celebrate our wedding anniversary on September 5th. Der Stall turned out to be this and more. It's near but not in town and enjoys the quietness of the country. It is on a road that leads off into the countryside. My wife and I enjoyed walking and watching the deer in the cool of the morning and evening. We also enjoyed breakfasting on the covered patio; the food was wonderful! I was surprised at how many thing there are to do in the area around Fredericksburg. We are making plans for a return visit as soon as possible. Next time we will fly to San Antonio and rent a car, so we can spend more time.

Der Stall is cute, quaint and loaded with character as much of the décor was collected during their years of military service in Germany. The owners, Ron and Susan Huether, offer a comfortable, quiet get away a short distance outside Fredericksburg. The bathroom vanity is an antique radio cabinet with a small galvanized tub for a sink and a red antique pump for a faucet. Der Stall is separate from the main house providing complete privacy. Susan delivers a German themed breakfast in a beautiful presentation at 8:30am. We truly enjoyed our stay and plan to return.

We booked two nights. The location was great. Just a bit out of Fredericksburg. Just enough to escape all the tourist traffic. It is located on a road that dead ends about a mile from the turn off of the highway, which was great for running. I ran both mornings, while deer and peacocks wandered around.

The living space is cramped but served our needs. There was a small fridge and microwave, which was great. No cable but a good selection of movies. I couldn't get internet to work on a my phone/lap top but the owners provided a web-enabled tablet to do all the searching for local places I needed.

The bed was relatively comfortable and the 2 person jacuzzi was novel. Couldn't ever quite get the water hot enough to really enjoy it but after a long day of walking around, the soaking still felt nice.

Breakfasts were tasty. The affenbrot was yummy but rich! (I couldn't even finish 1/4 of it). The second morning we were served "Second Breakfast" which was an egg and sausage dish. Very tasty.

The owners were kind and non-invasive. Really just left us to our own devices, which I appreciated.

This really is a great space and has been created to be a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everything else.

The hosts at Der Stall are wonderful. Music was playing when we first walked in and little treats were left around the cabin to welcome us. The hot tub was wonderfully relaxing and the breakfast each morning was delicious! Susan sure can cook! The morning we were ready to leave, we had the car packed and ready to go when a family of five deer arrived outside. We spent about 15 minutes feeding the deer food that they provide for guests. We got great photos. Thanks for a wonderful time!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Der Stall (The Barn) Bed and Breakfast in historic Fredericksburg, Texas is a replica of this German descendant's family barn in Reifenberg, Germany. This fully modern bed and breakfast was constructed by the innkeepers and two generations of the innkeeper's German descendants to include milling the hardwood floor boards from locally procured rough-cut pine. This guesthouse has a master bedroom featuring a queen-size bed with a robust log headboard and footboard. Both were cut from nearby cedar trees and made by the innkeepers. The bedroom also has a romantic in-floor two-person Jacuzzi brand jetted bath. You're invited to dim the lighting and let the warm bubbling water sooth your cares away. Climb the steep (did we mention the steps are steep?) wooden steps to the hayloft for two full-size beds with a commanding view down into the cozy living room. ... more   less
