Have a cocktail on the porch or balcony while watching small aircraft takeoff and land... yes this is an airport based hotel but also takes you back in time to the 1940s from the moment you step into the lobby. From the period-specific furniture and decor to the authentic 40s music playing in the background. Even the elevator walls are decorated with old blueprints of WWII military aircraft. The rooms are similarly decorated including an army green blanket at the foot of the bed, but don't let that fool you; the rooms and beds are very comfortable. There's a well appointed bar downstairs for a drink as well as a separate cafe. We've stayed in Fredericksburg many times including in-town locations. The hangar hotel is a few minutes out of town but nice to get away, especially if it is high tourist season. If you're lucky, they might even be having an antique car show while you're there, or call ahead to find out.

Room Tip: The 2nd floor rooms tend to have a better view.

If you are an aviation fanatic this is a great place to stay. The entire hotel has an aviation theme from way back in the day. There is a porch on the second floor with plenty of seating so you can sit and enjoy the view of airplanes landing and taking off. Unfortunately on the night we were there, it was raining pretty hard so there was no activity. However, the next morning the airport was pretty active. There is small old time diner to the side of the hotel with great food.

Room Tip: No pool and no fitness center. :-( The rooms were very clean, beautiful and comfortable.

What a cool hotel! The whole thing is modeled in an aviation theme, so if you're a pilot expect to fall in love with this place. Despite it being located on an actual local runway, this place is extremely well kept and has fantastic service. The Officer's Lounge is a throw back to a 1950's bar/lounge that you'd expect an Air Force officer to walk into at any minute. The drinks were great, and the ambiance was perfect. The Diner was terrific and the food was good. The attention to detail is great, and the people who work here seem to love their jobs. Additionally, it's not too far away from town, so if you're looking to shop on Main Street or visit some of the local brew houses, this is a great location to be out of the mess, but close to the fun. This is one of my favorite places to stay in Fredericksburg!

A great little hotel at the Fredericksburg Airport. It's has a 1940's aviation theme which works well for it. Staff was nice and courteous and the rooms were nice as well. Great little bar downstairs. Porch on the 2nd story to sit and watch the planes land and take off. I don't believe there was a pool or fitness center, but that's not what this place is about. If you need those things you should probably look elsewhere. It was not a problem for us.

Now for something a little bit different - a hotel, built in the form of a 1940s aircraft hangar, located on the aircraft parking apron and filled with nostalgia. It is fun; but maybe you need a passing interest in aviation history to make the best of it.
Some things to think about - the hotel is a couple of miles outside Fredericksberg - which makes sense as it is at the local airport. The bar and diner are not open early in the week - so you need to drive to town to eat. Breakfast early in the week is coffee, juice, fruit and a bun; but no tables - so you either take it to your room or go and sit outside.
There seems to be no restrictions where you walk and explore at the airfield - but early in the week it was very quiet - in 24 hours we saw just two planes leave.
Among the nostalgia there is an old 1944 built Douglas C41 (DC-3) parked on the grass close by. There are also a number of vintage cars and trucks.
I loved it - but to me this is my fantasy hotel. My only gripe is that I wish the bar and diner opened all week. I feel like I missed out on part of the experience.

Just go! Stayed here last fall and loved it. It was during the week (tuesday I think) so it was very quiet. Bad news is that early in the week the diner and bar are not open so you have to drive to town for breakfast/dinner/drinks etc. (just a mile or two).
Very much worth it but have no idea how busy the airport gets on weekends. If I still owned a plane I'd fly over often!

Room Tip: Stayed on first floor and it was quiet but I would think second floor might be better on weekend as...

My husband and I just spent two nights at the Hangar Hotel for our wedding anniversary. We found the location easily with our GPS and was able to check into our room at 1pm. As soon as you step into the hotel you are transported into the 1940s. The theming was very tastefully done. Our room was on the 2nd floor which has a large porch overlooking the runway. The room was decorated nicely. Our only complaints would be the lack of overhead lighting and the cable channels available- you get local channels, Fox news, the Golf channel and the Weather channel. We are in our mid-20s and were probably the youngest guests we saw by a few decades. This did not really bother us as we enjoyed this boutique hotel experience and found it more appealing than a chain hotel or bed and breakfast. The front desk personnel were very friendly and we had no problems with our bill. We enjoyed the Officer's Club on Friday night which had live piano music, a friendly bartender, and good drink prices. Overall this hotel met all of our expectations and is definitely something we would repeat in the future!

Room Tip: Request a room on the 2nd floor to be close to the deck overlooking the runway!
