“Back To The Forties!”

The Hanger Hotel is a nostalgic, fun experience. They have done an excellent job in creating a 1940's atmosphere. Everything from the phones to the alarms fit the era. The bar was not open the night we were there but we went in and sat a while - felt as if we were in an old movie set. The rooms are large and very comfortable. There is a balcony on the second floor and a porch on the 1st with rocking chairs where you can sit and watch the runway.

We spent two nights at the Hangar Hotel located on the Fredericksburg, Texas / Gillespie County Airport (KT82). This Hotel is a totally appealing jewel in the Texas Hill Country about 75 miles west of Austin.

The 50 room hotel was purpose built about 12 years ago to resemble a 1940's vintage airport hangar. It is located on the airport with both aircraft and automobile parking. All rooms have King beds and windows that can be opened. The other furnishings are high quality including the most comfortable leather chairs ever in a hotel room. The facility is, in all respects, perfectly maintained.

The environment is comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. The staff is pleasant and unfailingly helpful. To this reviewer‛s eye, the major element in all that is right with the Hangar Hotel is its local family ownership. The owners are present daily and their leadership in the operation of the Hangar Hotel is seen in the attentive staff and with detail in the care and maintenance.

A totally pleasant weekend for you and your significant other; fly or drive to the Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Room Tip: I do not believe there is a bad room in the house. Airport noise is never an issue.

Spent one night here...loved the 40's feel, complete with the big band melodies as background music in the public areas. Enjoyed the military/ Pacific theme...only missing the ocean! Relaxing atmosphere...very comfortable bed...nice outside porch on the flight line.
Too bad the diner doesn't have more hours of service, but we did get to have lunch there on a Thursday before checking in. The scones and coffee in the lobby were sufficient to get us going in the morning. I believe there are 50 identical rooms with king beds and two comfy leather arm chairs. We will definitely be back soon.

I saw this property when searching for a room in Fredericksburg. Instead of a bed and breakfast or a hotel, we choose this unique hotel at the airport. From the time you walk in, you are met with wonderful peolple at the desk ready to meet your needs. It was beautiful inside with a lovely wooden staircase and beautiful, chanderleirs.

This is an old airplane hanger turned into a hotel. How awesome is that? The rooms were very nice and comfy. All the art has to do with aviation and the chairs were made of bomber jacket leather. If you sit out on the wrap around balcony, you sit and see the sunset and you might see an airplane land. We really enjoyed it. It is a little out of the way but, hey.... it's at a small airport! The tv wasn't as big as we would have liked and there was only around ten channels, but it was ok. The whole atmosphere was worth the stay. Homemade cookies were waiting downstairs and breakfast rolls with fruit and juice for the morning.

My only disappointment was that the diner was closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so I didn't get to eat there. We did get to see inside. Reminded me of a movie. It was precious. Wish it would have been open so we would have had food close instead of driving into town.
Everyone ought to stay here at least once. They told us they get a lot of repeat customers and they also have weddings and receptions, etc. They are full up most days but we caught it on a Wednesday so it wasn't too bad. Love this place

Room Tip: No swimming pool or spa.

Located right on the flightline of Fredericksburg's airport the hotel is a natural magnet for the traveling pilot looking for a place to roost, and the WW-II era themed decor spices up the mix nicely, all of which is why we chose it. We were not disappointed in the hotel itself, which was quiet and in excellent condition, with friendly & efficient staff.

Rooms are comfortably large with one king bed and TV with 12 channels including, appropriately, the Military Channel. As other reviews note, decor very nicely follows the 1940's theme starting with the building itself which mimics the standard '40s wood hangar style and continuing right down to the bedside clock, a quartz-crystal powered replica of the old Big Ben alarm clock, with many other touches in between. Off the lobby there is a bar, the "Officers Club" open limited hours/days but friendly and serving an honest drink.

But there are caveats, most especially if you fly in and have no ground transportation. Breakfast & lunch are available at a cafe immediately adjacent to the hotel, but after lunch getting food means a cab ride downtown ($20 roundtrip, including tip), which is an unwelcome complication after a long day of travel. No local pizza place would deliver. We had some rations in our emergency kit but the rooms have no microwave, nor do they have in-room coffee for that critical first cup in the morning. Wi-fi is advertised, but no hint of it in our room. No pool or hot tub, and I didn't spot either an exercise facility or business computer room with printer, etc. None of these are deal-killers in themselves but still...at the somewhat above average price (figure $120 weekdays, $170 on weekends) it takes away points.

Still in all, we did enjoy our stay and the town of Fredericksburg is worth the visit, in particular the Pacific War Museum which will occupy the military-oriented for hours & hours.

This sweet little place looks like a World War 11 bunker. It sits at the edge of the airport. The colors include Army green, the telephone is one that would have been in that time period. The reception area is playing music from that era and the staff is very friendly and accomodating and they suggest great places for dinner. The beds are comfortable, the rooms clean and the continental breakfast excellent. Yummy scones instead of danish. You can take your favorite toddy up to the observation deck and wach the planes come in and take off. We loved our time at this hotel.

We absolutely LOVED our 3 nights at the Hangar Hotel! The 1940's South Pacific airstrip theme is so much fun! The rooms are very comfy & we especially enjoyed sipping drinks in the sun on the balcony overlooking the airstrip while watching planes the off. Try to book a night when the Officer's Club is open & when the 40's diner is open. It's all a very good time as is Fredericksburg itself.
