This was a lovely hotel. The rooms were large, clean and uniquely decorated. My only complaint is that the diner is not open daily for breakfast. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday. They have an officer's club bar that is only open some nights as well.
However, it was a neat experience to stay beside an airstrip and watch planes take off from the main veranda.

This hotel was great- from the moment we walked in the door and was greated by their friendly staff to the time we left. Very relaxing environment geared towards the older crowds 40's and up. The rooms were very large and beautiful. If you want a place that is nicely appointed, and relaxing- this hotel is for you.

My daughter and I just stayed at this hotel. We were going to Fredricksburg for a weekend shopping trip. Luckily I stumbled across this fabulous hotel on line. The Hanger sits directly ajacent to the plane tie downs. From the outside it looks like an old airport hanger and you wonder what the inside is like. Going through the front door is like stepping back in town. No detail is missed from the phones in the rooms to the candles in the windows. This is the quietest hotel we hae stayed in anywhere in the world. Make sure you go out on the observation porch and watch the small planes come and go. Have a drink in the Officer's Club and breakfast in the Airport Diner.

We stayed here for our 15th anniversary and were lucky enough to be able to go to a USO style hangar dance - it was a blast! Lots of nostalgia in a really neat room.
Garrett, at the front desk, was very friendly as was Rick, who made the stay extra special for my husband by showing him the C-47 they have on the premises (hubby used to be a crew chief in the Navy and flew on the things).
The coffee and scones in the morning tasted great on the observation deck and we got to see a few planes take off and land.
I would highly recommend the hotel. Large, immaculate rooms.
Also, Rick suggested we eat at the Herb Farm which we did - one of the best meals we have had and at a reasonable price for the quality. The chef is former Navy, too, so visiting with him was fun - he's very young to be so accomplished.

My husband and I switched from the Bed and Brew to the Hangar Hotel over Valentine's Day weekend. They have the same owner. We had seen the Hangar Hotel a few years ago and loved it, but were curious and booked instead at the Bed and Brew. After our first sleepless night we switched. Management was very accommodating about the change to this hotel. It was a Sunday night so the Diner and the Officer's Club were unfortunately closed, but they still let us in to play pool and hang out. Rates are reasonable. Rooms are great. Beds are king-sized and there are two oversized leather chairs for lounging. It's fun to look out and watch the airplanes come and go. My husband is a pilot, so this was even more fun for him. We liked that it was not on the main strip in town. It was quiet and pleasant. Even though they are not a bed and breakfast they offer a small breakfast--juice, coffee, danishs, scones. It's nothing fancy, but it definitely was a nice touch. Stay here! It's great! I just wish management would keep up their other facility as they do this one.

Great fun to stay in this stylish venue - and a delight to watch the sun setting over the runway with light aircraft coming and going. The 1940s theme is very well executed in the spacious, comfortable rooms - but it's not cheap. We knew the Diner wouldn't be open the night we stayed, but there was very little back-up facility for guests (ie the limited snacks in the lobby had run out by 9am). And a slight sense of being run as a club for flying guests - as mere drivers, probably the least warm welcome we had in any hotel in our tour of Texas.

The favorite part of our trip to Fredericksburg was hanging out at the hotel! I called the day before to ask if our room had a fridge/microwave & coffee maker, which it did not. However, the man offered to move us into a room that did (a suite) free of charge. We had a very spacious room with full fridge and stove! Cabinets had all the things we needed (plates, silverware, etc.) The suite had its own AC unit. The 2 leather chairs, mattress, & linens were quite comfy. We felt we were getting our monies worth, something you don't often find these days. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our only complaints were that 1. Our AC unit completely konked out with 1 night left in our stay, and they didn't bring someone out that evening to look at it, so it got quite cold. They did offer to move us into another suite (being the week of Thanksgiving it was rather quiet), but we decided to stay in our room. 2. They don't have enough channels on the TV, and NO ESPN. We survived checking scores on our laptop with the free wireless. 3. No DVD player, but we watched movies we'd brought on our laptop. 4. The diner is closed Mon and Tues.
It was neat to see/hear a couple planes/helicopters fly in. Lobby is elegant. Diner is very cool. We didn't get a chance to eat there but did get a drink and bought a T-shirt there for a family member that is a helicopter pilot. It was packed when we went and everyone seemed to enjoy their food.
Despite our complaints, we will definitely stay there again, and have recommended it to friends/family heading that way.
Enjoy your trip!
