“Fourth of July family getaway ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

We rented the entire house for the long July 4th weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The house comfortably accommodated our extended family of 7 adults and 3 kids. The house is well-maintained with some nice touches such as Keurig coffee makers, microwaves, and mini-fridges in each suite along with baskets of K-cups and snacks. We also had plenty towels and such for our entire stay.

I didn't venture out on the back deck because the mosquitoes were so bad when we were there, definitely come prepared for that. There was a half-full gallon of water in the refrigerator, probably left from the last occupants. Would've liked to have seen the fridge stocked with water, but not like that. A local bottle of wine would also be a nice touch.

The drapes could use a good vacuuming; my daughter saw spiders/spiderwebs on them and was not a fan!

All in all, we had a great time and I would definitely stay here again. The location is great and well within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants on Main Street. For the amenities, price, and location Almost Home Guesthouse can't be beat!

Our family rented the entire house over the 4th of July weekend. The location can't be beat. It is just a few blocks from the Marktplatz and many great restaurants and shops. The house is charming with great furnishings, bed, and linens and that excellent historic home feel. There are many areas that could use some TLC though. The deck out back seems to be forgotten and was wobbly with just a few adults. The wood is weathered and appears to be wearing out (one step was very loose, made me nervous with my kid on it). There was a brand new Webber grill, grill tools, and a new bag of charcoal back there (nice touch) and the furniture is comfortable and includes a large umbrella. Be prepared with mosquito spray! They were bad while we were there. Suite A includes the kitchen, a smaller bathroom with a shower, small living area, and two bedrooms. One bedroom (off the kitchen) leads to the deck. It is a large room with a nice table and chairs and plenty of room for a pack and play if you have small kids. The other bedroom is behind the living area wall and is the smallest of the rooms in the house. It has plenty of storage area with an amazing built in cabinet unit that takes up an entire wall. The kitchen is small but well stocked. The owners have Keurig coffee makers in each of the suites along with small baskets of snacks and Kcups (another nice touch). Suite B has a separate entry from the front porch that leads directly into the bedroom. We kept this locked. This is probably the noisiest of the rooms as it faces Main Street. The bathroom attached to Suite B is large with an awesome claw foot soaker tub. Don't attempt to shower in the claw foot tub. It is very narrow and the shower head is wonky. As soon as you turn it on, the thin shower curtain liner will stick to you like it's trying to attack. We could't get the TV to work in this room; the armoire it is in is also wobbly but won't fall on you (like I feared). The attic is completely redone and lovely. It has a dedicated staircase to the side of the building. It includes a sitting area, small table, daybed, queen sized bed, and small bathroom. This is likely the most quiet of the rooms available. It is also the culprit for keeping those in the rest of the house awake at night. If you're booking the whole house, I would recommend that you don't put a night owl or small children in the attic. Every step they take is transmitted to the rooms below. Overall we had a fun trip and enjoyed the house. It is a great value and has a wonderful location. I hope that the owners continue to work on improving and updating this Fredericksburg gem.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, pick the attic. Bring Kcups so you can take advantage of the Keurig brewe...

My family and I had high expectations that were not exactly met. We felt cramped in the place. You can hear through the walls. The traffic noise was pretty loud for a relatively slow weekend for the town.
I am used to having a bottle of wine or something for booking the bed and breakfast, but nothing was there for us. Not even water or anything in the refrigerator.
We were planning on grilling, but the set up is old and dirty. It is also not very private. We decided against it, but did find a lovely restaurant down the street. Location is great, and there are plenty of shops and eateries well within walking distance.
The bath tub is not comfortable. They have lots of good reads around the place though.
We loved the town! Great for everyone. We will be staying at a new place next time.

Room Tip: At least book the whole house for your stay.

We couldn't get the TV to work in the main room. The place needs a little more TLC, lots of cobwebs/ants. Beverages in the fridge would have been nice (as stated on the guest literature in the house). There wasn't a big enough room for our large group of 7 to be in at the same time. The back deck looked like it had been forgotten. The rate was great for a group of our size. The owner wasn't very quick to respond to messages, and double-booked our reservation after paying in full.

Room Tip: The house is right on the main street, so expect a lot of noise from the highway. The ceiling fans i...

We rented the whole house in March and had a great time. There was enough room for everyone in our party (10 sleeping and up to 15 during the day)! We sat on the front porch and had a bridal shower. At night we walked down main and shopped. It seemed far when you're driving, but once you get to the end of the shops it's like we'd just started!

Kitchen was great for cooking meals and gathering in the morning. We also used the main living area for movies at night. My only complaint would be the back yard. It would have been nice to have a hot tub or a screened in porch. The porch was a little old and the mosquitoes were bad that weekend so we couldn't enjoy it.

It creaks like any old house, that's what makes it great! Parking seemed like it would be an issue, but never really was. The businesses close so early, and most of our party got there when everyone was gone.

It was an AMAZING price for the entire house for the whole weekend. If we have that many people again, we will definitely book Almost Home.

The Almost Home Guest House in Fredericksburg is a nice litte place. It's located on Main St. in the town but it's a little bit of a walk to get there (half mile tops). We walked everyday down to the shops/bars/restaurants and had a great time. It's very convenient to several of the wineries (drivable) and Fredericksburg Winery is just about 1/4 mile away. Enchanted Rock is about a 20 minute drive away and well worth it (if you don't mind a little hike).

We rented Suite A (the larger of the two with a hot tub). It's not a B&B. We never saw the owners and no breakfast was provided (that's what we wanted). It's fairly private. It has a full kitchen and everything you could think of was provided. The beds were comfy and it did kind of feel a little bit like home.

Positives:
-- full kitchen
-- allows pets ($25 dep required)
-- hot tub
-- 2 bedrooms
-- privacy
-- proximity

Negatives:
-- inconsistent temp throughout the home
-- leaky roof (note: it rained like Hades when we were there)
-- no gutters around house (see above note)
-- backyard deck is not that private
-- traffic noise (what do you expect?)

Overall, this was a very nice place. For the price, I was a little amazed at how nice it was (considering it allowed pets also). I would absolutely stay here again. The home is cozy, the beds are nice, and it's semi-close to everything. The only real negatives were a result of a heavy downpour. I would definitely recommend this place (esp. if you are taking a pet).
