The place is not up to Best Westeran standards, grounds are poorly maintained, rooms are deteriorating from lack of maintence. One saving grace, if you are looking for an inexpensive no frills room for a night, this is the place.

Best Western reservation E-mail confirmed rate using AAA discounts for 2 nights (which included $10 rate increase on Friday) but hotel did not give AAA discount for Fri. so rate increased almost $10 over written confirmed rate. Was not informed of AAA discount refusal for Friday upon check-in.After inquiring about the rate change at checkout, clerk stated it was still a discounted rate.Best Western Reservation Supervisor said hotel manager should get in touch within 7 days never heard from him. Otherwise room was clean, most of staff helpful and courteous. Stayed the month before with no problems but did not have a reservation.

We stayed here for the first time this past week. We love Rockport, but have acquired a small dog and our favorite motel doesn't accept pets, so we're in the market for a change. I read reviews on several places, and most were like this one--some loves/some hated, so we settled on this one based on outside appearance (had seen on previous trips), and the things in the more positive reviews. It was a good choice. First of all, you can't please everyone, and you have to know that when you are paying $90ish a night, you're not getting a swanky celebrity hotel! What we did get for that price was a large room with 2 queen sized beds, a flat screen TV, a small fridge, a microwave, love seat & coffee table, small table with 2 chairs, & a decent sized bathroom. The furnishings were comfortable and seemed pretty new. Everything was clean. The hotel provides an included hot breakfast that is impressive--French toast, pancakes, biscuits & gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, plus things like danishes, muffins, cereal, oatmeal, etc. The hotel has free wi-fi...we did find, as some other reviewers mentioned, that the signal was a bit weak, but it did work. Our dog was welcome--pet fee is $10/day. The grounds were well kept and the pool was nice and clean. There is an area for parking your boat, If that is something you need. The staff was friendly. We were pleased with the Inn by the Bay, and will stay here again!

As a former resident of Rockport, TX and an annual attendee of the Oysterfest in Fulton, I wanted to give this hotel a try instead in lieu of our regular accomodations as it was within walking distance of the festival grounds. The hotel reviews were good. Upon arrival, there was some congestion off the highway with construction and the flow into the hotel but everyone seemed friendly and all smiles so it wasn't too big of a deal. Check in was smooth. The layout of the hotel is an apartment style access. Our room keys did not work so we returned to the front desk and the manager was VERY kind and walked us to our room. The electronic key card system was not working. He gave us a traditional room key on the spot, possibly his master room key to our room. The room was nice and clean. The colors were energizing and very modern. We walked to the festival and returned to our room at 9pm. We were asleep before 10. At 11:30 we were abruptly awakened by banging on our door. We thought it was the police or an evacuation or something important. We called through the door "can I help you" and a woman began cussing and yelling at us and then began kicking our door such that the walls shook. We had forgotten to latch the chain so we did that - safety. We picked up the room phone to dial 911 and NO DIAL TONE. Now...if you have any knowledge of emergency management, you know that calling from a land line is the best source of accurate tracking (especially when you aren't exactly in the know of your landmarks) through computer aided dispatch. Luckily, we had our cell phones and although my phone had died at the fest and was uncharged, my husband had his and it had a small charge and there was a signal. The woman left and then returned and continued to kick our door, cussing at us. She left again. We looked out the window and the woman appeared highly agitated and actually shot us the bird as she paced back and forth on the sidewalk in front of our room. There were no lights on our porch so we were fearful of stepping outside. The police arrived within 10 minutes and apparently, the woman, the police and the hotel manager met up in the lobby. About 15 minutes later, the hotel manager and the woman were seen walking on the other side of the courtyard. He escorted her to her room. She had forgotten what room was hers and she was certain that we were in her room. Unfortunately, we were unable to fall asleep until after 2am. The next morning, there was no hot water, only warm water even with the spicket set on full hot. The tub did not drain. The coffee was good. There was a full breakfast grill with chef, but we chose not to eat there for fear of running into the crazed woman from the night before so we grabbed the coffee and headed back to our room. We did speak to the manager before check out but all he could offer was an apology. We were hopeful for a comp night at minimum but understand that the lack of sleep was not his fault. However, the lack of safety and the inconvenience of the the key issue were both directly his issue. Check out was smooth. We probably will not return to the property as safety was on the line.

Room Tip: I suggest a room facing the courtyard.

10 of us from Dallas/Ft. Worth, on a birding field trip, stayed at the Best Western by the Bay in Fulton on Thursday night (2/23/12). We got great mid-week room rates and enjoyed the wine happy hour (though the red wine seemed a little watered down) and hot breakfast the following morning. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Microwaves and refrigerators in each room was a bonus, especially if we had been leaving before the breakfast service began. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. When we checked in their computers were down but we were all able to take care of the bills in the morning. They were very accommodating when asked to split the room charge between 2 credit cards.
