We stayed at the Hotel Galvez for one night before boarding our cruise to Mexico. Our stay began with a very friendly welcome from their helpful and efficient valet. The front desk staff kindly provided us with a corner room.

The room was nicely decorated, clean and quiet. Comfortable beds and good temperature control. Large flat screen TV.

We had a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant. I had seafood chop salad and my daughter had Caesar salad with shrimp. Warm garlic bread and butter was also served. The waitstaff was terrific! Salads were so large that we should have shared one. The cost was very reasonable for the nice dining atmosphere and the convenience of not having to leave the hotel.

In the morning, before leaving for the cruise, we had the smoked salmon and bagels. It was outstanding, with a very generous portion of salmon, chopped egg, red onion and capers. The coffee was a special Starbucks blend and also was very good.

The good news for cruise-goers is that you can leave your car at the hotel for a one-time fee of $15. They also provide free shuttle to the ship and back.

My husband and I were graciously given a two night stay at this hotel for our honeymoon from my father-in-law. It was a great place to stay very clean and friendly. Our room was supposed to be considered a suite, but it was just like any other hotel room to me. Nontheless it was perfect. It had a beautiful view and was great for me and the hubby. The pool in this hotel is TO DIE FOR! It's absolutely the best part of the whole hotel (other than being so close to the beach of course.) Overall it was a great stay and we had a great time! Thank you for your hospitality.

Although our room was quite small, it had everything we needed to spend Christmas weekend. The spa was an unexpected luxury! I went for a pedicure and found the pedi area to be unusually spacious with windows that let a lot of outdoor light in. Afterwards I spent time in the relaxation room which was out of this world (literally) - a quiet, dimly lit, peaceful room with very soft, inconspicuous music, ice water, and hot tea. The spa made the stay for me, but my husband enjoyed the enormous Sunday buffet. Before we left we looked at the suites, but found them to be wanting, considering the cost. They were not terribly large or luxurious, but if I were to receive a free upgrade I would love any of them. The Galvez offers old world charm and a spacious setting with beautiful grounds. Just don't expect a spacious bedroom.

Room Tip: If you want a decent sized room, ask for a BIG room (although I don't know if they come in a siz...

Thanks for your review and for staying with us. Yes, some of our rooms are on the smaller side but historic hotels like The Galvez tend to have smaller rooms so why not spend more time at the pool and spa like you did! Everyone should experience our spa's relaxation/medication room-it will make you forget about everything.

we stayed here with our family. the pool and the bar at the pool was amazing. the kids had a great time as well as the adults. the guests were very friendly and nice. the staff was very accomodating. the pool area could have used mored help, but the help that was there worked happily non stop. the rooms were on the small side but it didn't matter. this was one place where we just used the room to sleep. the beach across the street was also very nice. you could rent chairs and umbrells to protect you from the sun. we had a great weekend there and would recommend it to anyone.

We celebrated my brothers 50th birthday at the Galvez. It is a grand old hotel. Being old, the rooms are smaller than most modern hotels but they were furnished very tastefully. The bed was super comfy. We got seaview rooms but there is no balcony and the windows don't open so there is not much need to upgrade.

My mother got room 501 which is supposedly haunted but, apart from the room keys not working on several occasions, there was no discernible ghostly activity. However, it did make for some lively conversation.

We had breakfast, dinner and Sunday brunch. At each, we were impressed with the flavor. I would recommend the fresh local seafood for dinner. And for breakfast, the bagels and locks were delicious with more salmon than you could possibly wish for. The Sunday brunch was terrific, especially the shrimp and oysters.

Overall the service everywhere in the hotel was friendly. They really made us feel at home. I especially liked the live piano music played in the grand hall at night. It realy made for a memorable weekend and I would definitely return.

Room Tip: Not really necessary to get the ocean view because there is no balcony.

Excellent location, parking, staff, nice overall ambiance. Very nice room amenities. Nuts, water, wine, and toiletries. Only thing the other guests were loud in the halls after 10 PM. Really enjoyed our stay. Will return again. Very good value for the price.

Hotel Galvez is Tops on my list!! This upscale hotel is Classy in every way from the beautiful corner spacious rooms (regular rooms are a bit tight), the dining for breakfast and dinner, work-out facility, pool and outdoor grounds. The staff is pleasant and helpful, the entire hotel/rooms/bathrooms/cabana areas and pool are super clean. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this hotel! It would be ideal and romantic if it were more of an "adult only" hotel, but it's when the families and kids are running around and splashing in the pool that make it less personal and romantic (people take a hold of and control your youngsters)! The downtown Strand area is perfect for an early morning/evening night stroll with lots of resturants to choose from and not far from the hotel. I appreciate that the hotel offers complimentary parking in the garage located across the street and it's situated just steps from the beach. We will stay at this hotel for our couple get aways time and time again!

Room Tip: The corner rooms are more spacious, quiet, and out of the way of hall traffic.
