Owner description: Walk along this eight-mile seawall built to protect Galveston from the raging winds and waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Walking on the beach was great until we saw the rats... It was so romantic walking on the Seawall then down the steps - I really like how much more sand there is but what we thought were birds were Rats - that is a mood killer... lol so no sitting on the beach!

You can walk or drive along the eight mile long Galveston seawall. We were there in early October and the crowds were all gone therefore it felt like you were having the place to yourself. The traffic problems found during the summer months were not to be. The surf was rolling in accompanied by strong winds therefore you could get the mist covering you and walking was not really a choice so we drove. The businesses area across from the seawall have made significant strides since the last hurricane with many new structures and lots of renovation. Only a few structures remain that have not been renovated.

I have never figured out why I love Galveston so much. I tend to stay away from the crowds, it is always possible to find a stretch of less busy beach somewhere in Galveston. I love to watch the traffic out on the ocean, the waves come in and just enjoy the breeze.

Plenty of parking. Safe. Seawall has quite a history as protector of Galveston Island. Traffic flows well. Stop lights are well spaced and timed. Very clean. Easy beach access

Every mode of transportation you can imagine populates this seawall. Bikes, trikes, skates, blades, skateboards, and even feet. You pass the old pier and some incredible statues and a nice clean beach with not that many people on it in September. It's a great seawall.
