We were walking the streets of downtown Galveston when we happened on The Star Drug Store last Sunday. The place had lots of customers sitting both at the soda fountain inside and outside on the sidewalk. We saw the menu on the windows and breakfast was being served. There are many buildings that have been restored since the last hurricane, thus the area is coming back quite well. The soda fountain counter is a large "u" shaped marble top counter with the preparation staff cooking breakfast in the middle. There were also tables along the walls as well as those outside. The menu was breakfast so that is what we had. Ask for decaf coffee and they made us a fresh pot. Lots of locals coming in as the employees seemed to know a lot of those that came in. We found out from the cashier that the drug store ceased to operate as a drug store in the 1960s. There is still memorabilia scattered throughout the building including an upstairs that can be reached by stairs. This is a neat old place and if you are into history then is the place to stop for a coffee, breakfast of lunch sandwich.

I was walking around downtown Galveston this Sunday morning and found this gem. I ordered "The Islander" omlet, bacically a western omlet. It came with an order of potatoes. It wasn't a healthy selection, but it sure was good. This place is a gem and it was a refreshing step back in time. Just old school.

We stopped into this "old time" drug store/lunch counter/soda shop for breakfast. What a wonderful little out of the way place. Each of us ordered made-to-order omelettes with toast. The cook definitely has a special way with an egg when it comes to making omelettes!! Light and fluffy - yum!! Can't say enough about this wonderful little place. While you're there be sure to look at the eclectic collection of costume, jewelry and knick knacks!.

Star Drug is a little old fashion soda fountain on 23rd Street. We eat there often because its just a short walk. It oozes nostalgia...right down to the bar stools, the decorations and the old timey shake machine. In fact the Coca Cola sign out front is one of the largest porcelain Coke signs still in existence. The place has been used in a couple popular movies, you can read about that on the place cards throughout the restaurant.

Even though there are lunch plates with hamburgers etc on the small menu we have only been there for breakfast. The breakfast is good but honestly nothing special...heck how can eggs, bacon and grits be over the top. Although II do find the pancakes extra fluffy. The price is inexpensive and the staff is always friendly.

If you decide to eat there make sure to pay special attention to all the items that are for sale in the main counter as you pay. Very fun...I wont spoil the surprise...I'll let you see that for yourselves.
