We were walking the streets of downtown Galveston when we happened on The Star Drug Store last Sunday. The place had lots of customers sitting both at the soda fountain inside and outside on the sidewalk. We saw the menu on the windows and breakfast was being served. There are many buildings that have been restored since the last hurricane, thus the area is coming back quite well. The soda fountain counter is a large "u" shaped marble top counter with the preparation staff cooking breakfast in the middle. There were also tables along the walls as well as those outside. The menu was breakfast so that is what we had. Ask for decaf coffee and they made us a fresh pot. Lots of locals coming in as the employees seemed to know a lot of those that came in. We found out from the cashier that the drug store ceased to operate as a drug store in the 1960s. There is still memorabilia scattered throughout the building including an upstairs that can be reached by stairs. This is a neat old place and if you are into history then is the place to stop for a coffee, breakfast of lunch sandwich.
